California Adventure Closure Drags On, Disney Shares Update
Disney California Adventure is getting closer to having its full attraction lineup back in action.
Few Disney parks have changed as dramatically as California Adventure. Since opening in 2001, the park has repeatedly reshaped its identity, replacing much of its original (and, if you ask some fans, tacky) Golden State concept with lands and attractions tied more closely to Disney, Pixar, and Marvel franchises.

Cars Land and Buena Vista Street helped define its biggest early overhaul. A Bug’s Land later disappeared for Avengers Campus, Paradise Pier became Pixar Pier, and Pacific Wharf was transformed into San Fransokyo Square.
One pocket of the park, however, retained more of California Adventure’s old-fashioned seaside atmosphere. Paradise Gardens Park emerged alongside Pixar Pier in 2018, keeping attractions including Goofy’s Sky School, Golden Zephyr, and The Little Mermaid – Ariel’s Undersea Adventure.
Silly Symphony Swings is another holdover. Opened in 2010 and inspired by Mickey Mouse’s 1935 animated short The Band Concert, the spinning chair attraction has been missing from the park’s operating lineup for months.

The ride closed for refurbishment on April 27. Disney initially provided no reopening date, leaving guests with little indication of how long the increasingly lengthy project would last.
Nearly four months later, that uncertainty is finally ending.
Disney Confirms Silly Symphony Swings Reopening Date
Disneyland Resort has updated its official website and operating calendar to confirm that Silly Symphony Swings will reopen at Disney California Adventure on August 28.
The date puts the attraction’s refurbishment at just over four months, making it a significant closure for a ride that does not appear to have received a major thematic overhaul.
During the work, portions of the attraction were dismantled. The upper section of the structure and its swing hardware were removed, while scaffolding and scrims obscured much of the ride from guests walking through Paradise Gardens Park.

Those coverings have now largely disappeared. Recent views from inside California Adventure show Silly Symphony Swings visible once again, with its familiar musical scenes apparently intact.
Construction walls remain around the entrance for now, preventing guests from accessing the attraction before its scheduled August 28 reopening.
The return will also produce an unusually complete attraction lineup at Disney California Adventure. Once Silly Symphony Swings resumes operations, every attraction at the park is expected to be available.
The same cannot currently be said next door at Disneyland Park. Frontierland Shootin’ Exposition and Main Street Cinema are both unavailable, with several more temporary closures approaching in September.

Mark Twain Riverboat and Indiana Jones Adventure are scheduled to close for refurbishment on September 8. Mad Tea Party and Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island will follow on September 14, while Sailing Ship Columbia is due to close September 21.
Pixie Hollow is also closed on Tuesdays and Thursdays through September 28.
California Adventure’s more complete lineup will not last indefinitely either. Bigger changes are already on the horizon as Disney prepares for another round of development at the resort.
