Disneyland Resort Issues Long-Awaited Update After Quietly Axing Pixar Ride

A Disney California Adventure attraction is finally set to return after months behind construction walls.

While Disney routinely closes attractions for refurbishment, guests are usually given at least a rough idea of how long those closures are expected to last. That wasn’t the case for one Pixar Pier attraction that disappeared from the lineup earlier this year.

Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind closed in February for what was initially listed as a two-day refurbishment. The attraction never reopened as scheduled and has remained unavailable to guests ever since.

The ride first opened in 2019 as part of Pixar Pier at Disney California Adventure. Inspired by Pixar’s Inside Out (2015), it invites guests to board Memory Movers and travel through a Headquarters-inspired version of the Imagination Institute while collecting glowing memory orbs representing different emotions.

Although it is not one of the resort’s headliner attractions, it remains a popular option for families visiting the park.

Disney California Adventure has historically offered fewer attractions aimed at younger children than neighboring Disneyland Park. Many of its most popular rides, including Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! and Incredicoaster, are geared toward older guests and thrill-seekers.

Disney Confirms Reopening Date

Disneyland Resort has now updated its website to show operating hours for Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind beginning June 19.

The update confirms that the attraction is set to reopen after nearly four months of closure.

Disney has not publicly explained the reason for the extended refurbishment.

The attraction was previously closed from January 5 through January 23 for refurbishment before reopening. Just weeks later, it closed again in February for what was expected to be a short maintenance period.

During the latest closure, the attraction remained hidden behind purple construction walls.

Disney has not disclosed what work was carried out during that time, and it remains unclear whether any significant changes were made to the attraction.

Guests visiting Disney California Adventure this week reported seeing Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind operating, suggesting testing was underway ahead of its return.

Other Disneyland Resort Projects Continue

Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind is not the only Disneyland Resort attraction currently undergoing refurbishment.

At Disney California Adventure, Silly Symphony Swings remains closed, with no reopening date currently listed.

Over at Disneyland Park, Pirates of the Caribbean is also unavailable while refurbishment work continues.

Disney has not announced when either attraction is expected to return to operation.

Another major refurbishment project is scheduled to conclude later this summer.

Matterhorn Bobsleds at Disneyland Park is currently set to reopen on July 24, according to the Disneyland Resort website.

The reopening means both Matterhorn Bobsleds and Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind should be available to guests during part of the busy summer travel season.
