Universal Kids Resort Guests Are Fed Up and the Park Just Made a Big Promise
Universal Kids Resort in Frisco, Texas, opened on July 1, and the reviews have been mixed. The rides are colorful, the park is clearly built with little kids in mind, and the overall experience is delivering what families were hoping for. But two weeks in, one complaint keeps showing up in reviews and social media posts, and it has nothing to do with the attractions.
There is not enough shade.
The Universal Kids Resort Feedback Has Been Consistent
North Texas summers are not gentle. Temperatures in the Frisco area have been regularly hitting triple digit heat index values since the park opened, and guests spending full days at Universal Kids Resort have noticed that stretches of walkways and queue areas leave families fully exposed to the sun. For parents with young children, that is not a minor inconvenience. It changes the entire shape of a day at the park.
The conversation actually started before the park even opened. A local Texas resident flagged the issue back in June after looking at pre-opening photos, pointing out that the park appeared to have minimal shade and that North Texas summers regularly push temperatures between 95 and 105 degrees from June through September. The post suggested Universal Kids Resort could end up feeling like a half-day park during the hottest months if the shade situation did not improve.
Hi! 👋 Person that lives in north Texas here. I've been looking at pictures of the new Universal Kids Resort. Very colorful, kid friendly rides and things to see. There seems to be one glaring omission from this resort.

Where is the shade??? From June -September, you can… pic.twitter.com/SnYT4gYZeY
That concern turned out to be well-founded.
What Universal Said
To their credit, Universal Kids Resort did not ignore the feedback. The park released a statement confirming that additional landscaping and shade elements are already being planned and will be added throughout the resort over time. The statement also reminded guests that the park offers a mix of indoor attractions, air-conditioned restaurants and shows, splash pads, and other ways to cool off during a visit.
That is the right response. New parks almost always continue improving after opening day, and landscaping in particular takes time to mature into something that provides real relief. The fact that Universal is acknowledging the issue and committing to improvements rather than brushing it off is a good sign.

What to Know If You Are Visiting Universal Kids Resort This Summer
If a trip to Universal Kids Resort is already on your calendar, there are ways to work around the heat while the park continues making improvements. Getting there early, taking splash pad and indoor breaks during peak afternoon heat, packing sunscreen, and staying hydrated will all make a meaningful difference. The park has enough indoor spaces to build a smart itinerary around, especially for families with younger kids who need regular breaks anyway.
More shade is on the way. But for now, a little planning goes a long way.
