The Return of a ‘Classic’: Disney Fast-Tracks Massive Hollywood Studios Transformation
Disney’s Hollywood Studios has transformed dramatically over the past several years, with new lands, attractions, and entertainment reshaping nearly every corner of the park. Even so, Disney still has more in store before its latest vision is complete.
Guests have already started exploring part of one upcoming project, but new construction filings confirm that work continues behind the scenes. While the finishing touches are still underway, Disney is getting closer to bringing back a familiar experience in a completely different way.
Instead of recreating the attraction exactly as guests remember it, Disney is taking inspiration from the past while building something designed for today’s families.

Disney Brings Back a Familiar Name
The returning experience is The Magic of Disney Animation, a name that longtime Hollywood Studios fans may remember well.
The original attraction gave visitors a look inside the animation process, even allowing them to watch Disney artists working on feature films through viewing windows. The new version keeps the recognizable name but introduces a much different experience.
Rather than focusing on how animated movies are made, Disney is creating an interactive destination filled with activities, characters, and family-friendly experiences that celebrate Disney animation in a fresh way.
The Courtyard Is Already Taking Shape
While guests continue waiting for The Magic of Disney Animation to open, much of the surrounding area has already welcomed visitors.
The reimagined Walt Disney Studios Courtyard draws inspiration from the real Walt Disney Studios campus in California, giving this section of Hollywood Studios an entirely new look. A giant Sorcerer Hat now serves as the focal point of the entrance, replacing the atmosphere many longtime visitors remember.
Just steps away, Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live! is already entertaining younger guests and helping establish the area as one of the park’s newest family destinations.

What Guests Will Experience
Disney has confirmed that The Magic of Disney Animation will debut later this summer, though it has not announced an exact opening date.
Inside, guests will find several new experiences. One of the biggest additions is Drawn to Wonderland, a playground inspired by Mary Blair’s artwork for Alice in Wonderland. Disney recently offered fans a behind-the-scenes look at construction as crews continued bringing the colorful space to life.
The attraction will also feature a refreshed Animation Academy. Olaf will host the experience, while guests learn under the guidance of Disney Animation artists through recorded presentations.
Disney also plans to introduce six character meet-and-greet locations inside the building. Several characters currently greeting guests in the courtyard are expected to move indoors once the attraction officially opens.
Together, these additions give Disney a modern way to celebrate its animation legacy while creating more interactive experiences for today’s visitors.

New Construction Permits Show Work Continues
The latest update comes from Walt Disney World’s newest construction permits.
Disney recently filed two Notices of Commencement connected to The Magic of Disney Animation. One covers the attraction itself at 190 Showbiz Boulevard, while the second applies to the neighboring building at 200 Showbiz Boulevard.
Both permits were submitted through Disney’s Sourcing & Procurement department and assigned Buena Vista Construction Company, Disney’s in-house construction team, to perform labor, electrical work, and other construction tasks. Like most Disney permits, both remain active for one year.
The second building also carries some history. During the original version of The Magic of Disney Animation, guests could look through windows into that facility and watch Disney animators working on feature films.
Hollywood Studios Keeps Evolving
The return of The Magic of Disney Animation is only one part of Hollywood Studios’ ongoing transformation.
Earlier this year, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring the Muppets officially opened on May 26, 2026, giving the Muppets a new home while breathing fresh life into one of the park’s classic thrill rides.
Meanwhile, crews continue demolishing the former Muppets Courtyard to make room for Monstropolis, a new land inspired by Monsters, Inc. Disney plans to recreate locations from the film, including Harryhausen’s restaurant, and to introduce the company’s first suspended roller coaster.

A New Chapter for a Classic Experience
Hollywood Studios continues to evolve rapidly, and The Magic of Disney Animation is another example of Disney blending nostalgia with new ideas.
Instead of simply bringing back a retired attraction, Imagineers are reimagining it with interactive experiences, character encounters, and play spaces designed for today’s families. Combined with the park’s other ongoing projects, the attraction is another sign that Hollywood Studios continues to reinvent itself while honoring the stories that shaped its history.
