Disney World Issues Warning for Hotel Guests Through Late 2027

A visible milestone in the ongoing refurbishment of Disney’s Contemporary Resort emerged this week. However, guests booking stays at the iconic Magic Kingdom area hotel should know the construction era is far from over.

A Ceiling Transformation Revealed

On Tuesday, WDWNT reported that protective netting and scrim have been removed from a previously covered section of ceiling in the Grand Canyon Concourse — the main atrium of Disney’s Contemporary Resort that has defined the hotel’s design since it opened alongside Walt Disney World Resort in 1971. The black scrim had been concealing exposed beams and interior infrastructure near one of the concourse’s skylights since late 2025.

What’s been revealed beneath is a seamless ceiling repair. Walt Disney World Resort has removed and replaced a section of ceiling tiles near the beloved Mary Blair mural and above the Fantasia Market merchandise location. The new tiles blend naturally into the surrounding design, maintaining the mid-century modern and retro-futuristic aesthetic that has made Disney’s Contemporary Resort one of the most architecturally distinctive hotels at any Disney destination worldwide.

Walt Disney World Resort’s official website warns guests that construction activity will be visible and audible during upcoming stays at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, with refurbishment work confirmed to continue through late 2027. Noisy construction is typically restricted to daytime hours when most guests are at the theme parks or Disney Springs, but the physical presence of ongoing work throughout the hotel is unavoidable.

The construction “may impact exterior views” from some rooms and could require guests to use alternate routes through parts of the Main Tower atrium and Bay Lake Tower at certain times. Most Deluxe Resort amenities remain available throughout the refurbishment period, and Monorail service continues operating normally.

Guests with questions or concerns about how the construction might affect their specific stay are encouraged to speak with the Front Desk, which can provide the most current information about what to expect on property.
