No Cell Phones Allowed: Disney Enforces Strict ‘Loose Item’ Restrictions on 7 Attractions

Disney World guests are starting to notice a pattern before rides even begin. Cast Members are taking a closer look at what everyone is holding, and it’s slowing things down in ways that weren’t happening before. This isn’t just a one-off situation either. It’s happening across several major attractions, and it’s changing how the boarding process works. If you’re heading to the parks soon, this is one shift you’ll want to understand before you get in line.

A Stricter Approach to Phones

Disney has always told guests to secure loose items, but the difference now is how seriously that rule is being enforced. Cast Members aren’t brushing it off anymore.

If they spot a phone in your hand or sitting in your lap, they can stop the process entirely. In many cases, they won’t dispatch the ride until everything is properly put away. That extra attention adds time to loading, which can slow down the line for everyone.

It’s not about being overly cautious. Disney is responding to a growing problem affecting ride operations.

Why This Is Happening Now

Phones dropping during rides have become more common, and they create bigger issues than most guests realize. When something falls onto a track or into a ride system, operations can come to a halt.

These stops don’t just last a few seconds. They can stretch into longer delays, especially when Cast Members need to retrieve the item. That impacts everyone waiting in line.

There’s also a safety factor. Loose items can pose risks depending on the attraction. So instead of dealing with problems after they happen, Disney is working to prevent them from happening at all.

TRON Leads the Way

TRON Lightcycle Run sets the tone for how strict Disney can be with loose items. Before you ride, you’re required to store phones, bags, and anything else in lockers.

There isn’t much flexibility here. Guests typically need a MagicBand, ticket media, or a cast member card to access those lockers, which discourages the use of phones during the process.

Once you reach the loading area, Cast Members keep a close watch. If something looks unsecured, they’ll stop things right away. It’s a system designed to eliminate risk from the start.

Other Rides Are Following Suit

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind doesn’t require lockers like TRON, but the enforcement has become noticeably tighter. Cast Members actively check riders before dispatch and pause the process if anything looks loose.

Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway has also been handled more strictly. Dropped phones have caused frequent disruptions here, so Cast Members now take a firm stance. If a phone is visible, the ride won’t move forward until it’s put away.

This approach prevents delays from escalating once the ride is already running.

Classic Attractions Aren’t Exempt

Even longtime favorites are seeing the same level of attention. Expedition Everest, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, and Space Mountain all involve fast movements that can easily send unsecured items flying.

Cast Members are watching these attractions more closely, and they may hold dispatch if they see something in your hand. It’s a simple step, but it helps prevent issues that could shut the ride down later.

The rides themselves haven’t changed, but expectations before boarding definitely have.

Looking Ahead to Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster

When Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster returns, it will likely follow this same pattern. The ride’s speed and intensity make loose items especially risky.

Given what’s already happening across the parks, it’s reasonable to expect the same level of enforcement here. Guests should be ready to secure everything before the ride begins.

What Guests Should Do

This change doesn’t mean you can’t bring your phone with you—it just means you need to handle it differently. Before boarding, make sure it’s secured in a zipped pocket, a bag, or a locker, if one is available.

Trying to hold onto it for a quick photo or video isn’t worth the delay it could cause. Taking a moment to secure your items helps keep the line moving and avoids unnecessary stops.

A Small Shift With Big Results

On its own, this might seem like a minor change. But across multiple attractions, it adds up quickly. Disney is focusing on prevention, which helps keep rides running smoothly and safely.

Once you see how often loose items cause delays, the stricter approach makes a lot more sense. For now, the expectation is clear—secure your phone, or you might be the reason the ride doesn’t leave the station.
