Disney World Issues Three Updates for Polynesian Village Resort Guests

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is in the middle of a sweeping series of construction projects. Guests checking in right now will find active work at multiple locations across the Deluxe Walt Disney World Resort hotel.

Great Ceremonial House Gets a Touch-Up

The space features wooden railings and warm, ambient lighting reminiscent of a pineapple lanai, creating an inviting atmosphere. Diners can be seen at the tables.

The resort’s central building, the Great Ceremonial House, is currently undergoing exterior refurbishment. The structure houses some of the Polynesian’s most beloved amenities — the lobby, check-in area, ‘Ohana, Kona Cafe, Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto, Capt. Cook’s, the Monorail station, and several merchandise locations. Several of the building’s vertical exterior beams have already been freshly painted, while others still show signs of fading, with scaffolding visible around the building confirming the work is ongoing.

Walt Disney World Resort limits construction activity to daytime hours when most guests are typically off-property at the parks. Still, visitors spending time in or around the Great Ceremonial House should expect to see and occasionally hear crews at work.

The adjacent Tonga Longhouse, situated next door to the Great Ceremonial House, is also behind construction walls. Temporary metal stairs have been installed to give crews access to the building’s exterior railings and doorways, which are being repainted as part of the ongoing work. WDWNT shared this photo of the project on Facebook:

Rounding out the active projects, Tiki Terrace — the outdoor dining area attached to Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto — is closed for refurbishment with no announced reopening date. Signage at the location directs guests to dine indoors or visit other dining options at the resort, including Capt. Cook’s and Kona Cafe.

Unfortunately, Walt Disney World Resort has yet to announce a reopening date for the space.
