Disney World Enacts Major Disruption for Its Most Loyal, Highest Paying Guests

Disney Vacation Club (DVC) members shelling out for a stay in the Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort are finding an unexpected disruption at one of the building’s entrances. It took some detective work for Walt Disney World Resort guests to figure out what was going on.

The Island Tower Villas & Bungalows opened in 2024 as the newest Disney Vacation Club property at Walt Disney World Resort, rising ten stories on the site where the Spirit of Aloha dinner show once drew guests to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. The building hasn’t even reached its second anniversary, and it’s already under construction.

WDWNT reported on April 15 that rolling planters and a black canvas had been placed to block a doorway and window at one of the tower’s ground-level entrances. Guests who found a way in through an alternate entry point discovered more of the same inside: a temporary wall and plastic sheeting creating an enclosed structure around the same doorway and window space.

A Disney cast member nearby explained that the doorway is being converted into a window to match the appearance of the opposite side of the Deluxe Disney Resort building.

No Timeline, No Warning

Walt Disney World Resort has not made any public statement about the project or offered a completion date. For DVC members who planned and paid well in advance for a stay in one of the resort’s most premium accommodations, arriving to find a partially barricaded entrance with no context or communication from Disney is a notable service gap, especially given that the building is barely a year and a half old.

Disney typically schedules hotel construction during daytime hours to minimize disruption to guests in the evening. Anyone with concerns during their stay can contact the Front Desk for assistance.
