Major Changes Are Coming to Disney World

Spring at Walt Disney World always feels like a reset. The weather shifts, the parks start looking brighter, and EPCOT’s Flower & Garden Festival brings a level of detail that’s hard to ignore. But beyond the seasonal atmosphere, April is shaping up to be a month where a lot of small—but important—changes take place.

And if you’re visiting, those changes can absolutely impact how your trip plays out.

One of the first things to be aware of is timing. Easter lands on April 5 this year, which means the early part of the month is going to be busy. Not just a little busy—holiday-level busy. That comes with longer waits, more crowded walkways, and a higher demand for dining reservations. But it also comes with some limited-time offerings, like the Easter parade at Magic Kingdom and special character meet-and-greets that you won’t find any other time of year.

As the month moves forward, attention shifts to Magic Kingdom for a different reason. Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin is reopening on April 8 after a major overhaul. This isn’t just a routine refurbishment. Disney has updated the ride vehicles, enhanced the blasters, and reworked parts of the experience to feel more interactive. Whenever a ride like this returns, it draws crowds quickly, so expect wait times to spike—especially in those first couple of weeks.

Mid-April brings another layer to think about: runDisney Springtime Surprise Weekend. Even if you’re not participating, you’ll feel it. Runners and spectators tend to fill the parks once races wrap up, which can shift crowd patterns throughout the day. Mornings might feel manageable, but afternoons often pick up quickly.

Later in the month, additional events begin to stack. Competitions held at ESPN Wide World of Sports bring in large groups, many of whom stay on Disney property. You’ll especially notice this at the Value Resorts, where things can feel more active than usual. Inside the parks, it translates to slightly heavier crowds—but nothing unmanageable if you plan ahead.

There’s also a small schedule change that could affect your evening plans. Starting April 24, Fantasmic! moves to a 9:00 PM showtime. That extra time before the show gives you more flexibility, whether you want to squeeze in another ride or grab dinner without rushing.

And for guests staying at Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort, there’s some good news. The Surfboard Bay Pool is reopening toward the end of April, bringing back a key amenity that many families rely on during their stay.

When you step back and look at everything together, April isn’t about one massive headline—it’s about multiple smaller shifts happening all at once. And if you know about them ahead of time, you can plan around them and still have a great trip.
