She-Hulk May Be Recast and Killed Off in Upcoming Marvel Series

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022) was supposed to bring a fun, fourth-wall-breaking twist to the Marvel Cinematic Universe long before “Merc with a Mouth” Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) did in Deadpool & Wolverine (2024), but instead, it left many fans covering their faces in second-hand embarrassment.

From cringe-inducing humor to awkward dialogue, the series often felt like a clumsy attempt at sitcom-style comedy, complete with cheap writing that even attacked male viewers. Even diehard Marvel fans struggled to stomach the misfires, and fans were quick to call out the show’s cheap laughs at the expense of proper character development.

She-Hulk Season 2 Axed

The show’s failure was reflected in the cancelation of She-Hulk Season 2, a decision Tatiana Maslany, the series’ star, attributed to the showrunners “blowing” their budget. While Maslany brought some charm and energy to the titular role, the mismanagement behind the scenes seemed to doom any continuation.

It’s another example of Marvel’s recent missteps across both Disney+ series and theatrical releases, signaling a slump in a franchise that once seemed unstoppable.

Upcoming Marvel Content

But Marvel isn’t staying idle. Fans can look forward to many new projects, even if She-Hulk isn’t expected to be part of any of them. All eyes are currently on major titles such as Avengers: Doomsday (2026) and Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026). But it’s not all about what’s hitting theaters — Disney+ has plenty of new content on the horizon, too.

Among them is the upcoming animated series Marvel Zombies, which builds directly on the What If…? universe, keeping the same distinctive animation style while spinning off the popular “What If… Zombies?!” episode. Watch the trailer below from Marvel below:

A Cast That Puts Doomsday to Shame

Confirmed characters include Wanda Maximoff/Red Queen, Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel, Kate Bishop, Yelena Belova, Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, John Walker/U.S. Agent, and Scott Lang/Ant-Man, with Elizabeth Olsen, Iman Vellan, Hailee Steinfeld, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, and Paul Rudd reprising their roles.

Others include Eric Brooks/Blade Knight (Todd Williams), Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Hudson Thames), and Thor (Greg Furman).

The lineup is huge and is enough to put the extensive cast list for the upcoming epic ensemble Doomsday to shame. The difference? Some of these guys are zombies.

She-Hulk Could Appear in Animation

While nothing has been hinted at, it’s possible Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk could appear, perhaps even as a zombie.

Neither the character nor Maslany are listed and the trailers so far offer no hints, but it’s still fun to imagine what other heroes might return in undead form. Given Marvel’s penchant for surprises, it’s not impossible, even if it remains speculative at this stage.

It could also be a way to give the character a second chance with fans after her disastrous Disney+ series. Nothing is impossible, and let’s not forget how Ryan Reynolds’ initial portrayal as Deadpool in Wolverine: X-Men Origins (2009) left a sour taste in our mouths.

With that said, it’s unlikely Maslany would be back in the fold. While her Disney+ boycott following Jimmy Kimmel being taken off air after he made comments regarding the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk are recent, Maslany hardly possesses the same appeal as actors such as Elizabeth Olsen, Florence Pugh, and Paul Rudd.

Who knows — Marvel Zombies may end up being the closest thing fans get to revisiting She-Hulk, even if it’s in a dark, twisted, animated version of the hero we thought we knew.

You won’t like her when she’s angry? What about if she’s angry and undead?

Marvel Zombies is scheduled to be released on Disney+ on September 24, 2025, and will consist of four episodes. It will be part of Phase Six of the MCU.
