After 15 Years, Disney Officially Greenlights ‘Camp Rock 3’!
It’s rare for a Disney Channel Original Movie to become a generational touchstone, but there are a few that stand above the rest. For some fans, High School Musical (2006) was the pinnacle of teenage storytelling. For others, Camp Rock offered the perfect mix of catchy music, heartfelt friendships, and rising stars who would go on to dominate the music industry.
These films not only launched careers but also created a loyal fan base that still remembers every lyric, every scene, and every dance number years later.

With that kind of staying power, the nostalgia surrounding certain Disney Channel properties is undeniable. Disney knows this, and the company has leaned into reviving fan-favorite franchises across television, streaming, and theatrical releases. In recent years, reboots, sequels, and spin-offs have become common ways to reintroduce classics to new audiences while giving longtime fans a taste of what they’ve been missing.
One particular property has been at the center of speculation for years, and fans finally have reason to celebrate.
The story began in 2008 when audiences first met Mitchie Torres (Demi Lovato) and Shane Grey (Joe Jonas). Camp Rock told the tale of a young girl desperate to attend the titular music camp, only to find a way in after her mother takes a catering job there. The film captured the hearts of viewers as Mitchie discovered her voice, made new friends, and fell in love with a pop star who happened to be the lead singer of the band Connect 3.

Following the success of the first film, Disney quickly moved forward with a sequel. Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam premiered two years later, reuniting Lovato with the Jonas Brothers and adding new stakes.
In the follow-up, Camp Rock faced serious competition from a rival camp known as Camp Star. The rivalry escalated to a televised showdown, where Mitchie accepted a risky challenge, knowing that a loss could mean the end of Camp Rock forever.
Although the competition ended with Camp Star’s victory—helped along by shady vote buying—many campers chose loyalty and joy over cutthroat rivalries, saving Camp Rock in spirit if not in name.

For years after, speculation about a third film persisted. Last month, fans thought they might finally have confirmation when the Jonas Brothers appeared on Hot Ones Versus and Joe Jonas hinted that something might be in the works. While the slip didn’t go unnoticed, nothing was confirmed at the time. That all changed when Disney made its official announcement.
Disney Branded Television today confirmed that the third installment of the franchise has been greenlit for Disney+ and Disney Channel, with Joe, Nick and Kevin Jonas returning to their reprise their roles. Camp Rock alum Demi Lovato also returns to executive produce, along with the Jonas brothers. Filming got underway this week in Vancouver.
The premise of the new story focuses on Connect 3 as they search for an opening act for a reunion tour. This brings them back to their old stomping grounds, where fresh campers will compete for a chance at the spotlight. Characters like bold Sage (Liamani Segura), her brother Desi (Hudson Stone), cello prodigy Rosie (Lumi Pollack), and camp bad boy Fletch (Malachi Barton) will join choreo queen Callie (Brooklynn Pitts), intimidating influencer Madison (Ava Jean), and drummer Cliff (Casey Trotter) to form a brand-new ensemble.
Ayo Davis, the President of Disney Branded Television, shared the following statement about the project:
“‘Camp Rock is an important part of the Disney Channel Original Movie legacy, with unforgettable music, energetic storytelling, and characters that live in the hearts of fans to this day. Bringing it back with Kevin, Joe, Nick and Demi is such a full-circle moment, and we can’t wait to reintroduce this world to a new generation.”
While Demi Lovato won’t reprise her role as Mitchie, her involvement behind the scenes is likely to shape the film’s tone and direction. Fans of the original movies will still recognize familiar faces, as Maria Canals-Barrera returns to portray Connie, Mitchie’s supportive mother.
Disney has not provided a release date, but the announcement revealed that the film will premiere on both Disney Channel and Disney+. Directing duties will be handled by Veronica Rodriguez, with a screenplay from Eydie Faye. Production has already started, giving fans plenty of reasons to expect more updates in the coming months.
