Fired ABC Star Lands New Job at Major Competitor

For more than ten years, ABC viewers tuned in on nights and weekends to watch senior meteorologist Rob Marciano report on everything from snowstorms to hurricanes, tornados, and more. Marciano was often in the heart of the action, showing the viewers just how much devastation weather events can cause.

In the decade he worked with ABC News, Mr. Marciano became a fixture on several shows, including Good Morning America, Good Morning America Weekend Edition, and World News Tonight. He also made appearances on shows like GMA3: What You Need to Know with T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach, and 20/20.

In late April of this year, viewers were shocked to learn that ABC had fired Rob Marciano, effective immediately. According to multiple sources, Marciano was fired due to his anger management issues and fights he was getting into with producers.

At one point, Marciano was removed from the air and even banned from the Good Morning America studio. He was accused of making a colleague feel uncomfortable, and an investigation was launched. The investigation resulted in Marciano being able to keep his job, but he was not allowed to film in the New York City studio.

Insiders claimed that his anger issues began when he separated from his wife of eleven years, Eryn Marciano, and divorce proceedings began.

The final straw came when Marciano allegedly got into a “screaming match” with fellow ABC meteorologist Ginger Zee. It was not the first time Marciano had been aggressive towards Ms. Zee, and she went to the network’s higher-ups, demanding something be done.

Now, nearly six months later, Marciano has gotten a job at one of ABC’s biggest competitors.

According to reports, Mr. Marciano has signed on with CBS News as it works to expand its weather network.

Per The Daily Beast:

Marciano kept a good relationship with Wendy Fisher—the former ABC News executive who ran the network’s newsgathering operations—who is now heading up CBS News’ weather operation, according to Status. It’s not clear when Marciano will return to the airwaves.

Just days after Marciano was fired from ABC, ABC News President Kim Godwin announced that she was stepping down. Godwin’s exit came after Disney reportedly became concerned about the job she was doing. They brought in Debra OConnell to work alongside Godwin, but it was really to observe what was happening.

OConnell was reportedly shocked by the poor job Godwin was doing. She was incredibly hands-off, which allowed things at ABC News to get completely out of control. Godwin had fired the head of talent in May 2023, and never bothered to replace him. Ms. Godwin allegedly turned a hands-off approach into completely ignoring any and all problems.
