Casting Call Issued for Roles in Disney’s Potential Live-Action ‘Frozen’ Project

Disney has become known in recent years for its live-action projects. Some of the studio’s live-action films are based on animated features from decades ago, while others are based on more recent animated films.

In fact, live-action remakes have become such a central part of Disney’s operation that even without an announcement from Walt Disney Studios, some news outlets say it’s only a matter of time before the studio gives the green light on a live-action project inspired by Disney’s Frozen.

As such, some are already casting their votes for the actresses who might play Anna and Elsa in a hypothetical Frozen live-action project.

The Success of Disney’s ‘Frozen’

Disney’s Frozen (2013) is the second-highest-grossing Disney animated film in the history of The Walt Disney Company. The story is the tale of Princess Anna (Kristen Bell) and her sister, Queen Elsa (Idina Menzel), in the days following Elsa’s coronation after her parents are tragically lost at sea.

Elsa must learn to acknowledge and embrace the things that are different about her, but she’ll need her sister’s help to realize that and to carry out the task. Kristoff, an ice harvester (Jonathan Groff), and his reindeer Sven lend a hand, and a little snowman named Olaf (Josh Gad) provides comic relief throughout the film.

The animated films Frozen and Frozen II have been so popular that it’s almost unbelievable that Disney hasn’t begun a live-action project already.

Per Screenrant:

It’s only a matter of time before Walt Disney Studios greenlights a live-action remake of Frozen. Whenever that happens, producers will have a long list of talented actresses who could potentially play Anna [and Elsa].

Kristen Bell originated the role of Anna, the princess of Arendelle, in the 2013 animated musical fantasy movie Frozen and returned for the highly-anticipated sequel, Frozen II. Bell is expected to reprise the voice role in the next two installments of the popular Disney film series.

But it’s unlikely that Bell would portray Anna in a potential live-action version of Frozen, given that she is more than 20 years older than the character in real life.

Who Might Play the Roles of Anna and Elsa?

When it comes to actresses who could potentially play the roles of Anna and Elsa, Hollywood has a long list.

Both actresses would need to be able to sing, as both Anna and Elsa sing in Frozen and Frozen II. When Disney removed musical numbers in the live-action version of Mulan, the result was not a positive one. Both actresses would also need to exude the soul and enthusiasm seen in both characters in the animated features.

Several Hollywood actresses have been included in a list of potential leading ladies for the roles of Anna and Elsa in a live-action remake of Frozen.

Actress Florence Pugh leads the charge when it comes to actresses who might play the role of Anna.

Another actress who might play the role of Anna is Amandla Stenberg, known for her role as Rue in The Hunger Games. Stenberg’s versatility could lend itself to the actress’s success in playing the role of Anna in a live-action take on Frozen as well.

Singer and actress Sabrina Carpenter is another good choice when casting the roles of Anna and Elsa in a live-action remake of the icy animated feature inspired by the works of Hans Christen Anderson.
Per Screenrant: Sabrina Carpenter is one of the more obvious choices to play Anna on the big screen — she is known for her singing and acting and excels in both areas. Carpenter got her big break starring as Maya Hart in “Girl Meets World,” the Disney Channel spinoff of “Boy Meets World.”

Following the end of the series, Carpenter continued acting in various shows and movies, but she also dedicated a lot of her time to making music. Since 2015, the artist has released five studio albums and is now opening for Taylor Swift on the Eras Tour. Carpenter’s career is thriving, and a brief return to Disney would only make sense.
Of course, any of these leading ladies could play the role of Anna or Elsa despite the characters in the Frozen film franchise being very different. But before fans pick and choose their favorite stars to fill the roles in a live-action take on Frozen, it might be prudent to wait for Disney to greenlight the project, which doesn’t seem too far off in the future after all.
