‘Wolverine’ Reboot Set in Same Universe as ‘Spider-Man’ Trilogy, Director Says

Few Marvel heroes embody such stark contrasts as Wolverine and Spider-Man. One is a haunted mutant drifter with unbreakable claws and a violent past, and the other is a wisecracking teenage kid from Queens who swings between skyscrapers to save his city.

But despite their different personalities and powers, both have long stood among Marvel’s most beloved characters. And now, they finally share more than a comic book legacy.

Following the debut of the first official trailer for the long-gestating video game “Marvel’s Wolverine”, developer Insomniac Games has confirmed that Logan and Peter Parker officially exist in the same universe within their video game universe.

This comes directly from Senior Creative Director Bryan Intihar, who revealed in a recent interview with YouTube channel Kinda Funny Games that both the “Marvel’s Spider-Man” series (which so far consists of “Spider-Man” 2018, “Spider-Man: Miles Morales”, and “Spider-Man 2”) and the upcoming “Marvel’s Wolverine” take place on Earth-1048.

“They’re all 1048,” Intihar said when asked if the upcoming game is in the same universe as the “Marvel’s Spider-Man” games, which were also developed by Insomniac.

Of course, with the adamantium-clawed mutant leading the charge, “Marvel’s Wolverine” promises a more brutal and visceral brand of storytelling than those Spider-Man titles.

The footage showcases a bloodied Logan battling and slicing through enemies in a snow-covered setting, leaning into his violent nature while maintaining Insomniac’s trademark cinematic polish. Scheduled to release exclusively on PlayStation 5 in Fall 2026, the game promises a standalone narrative — though the Earth-1048 link now hints at a wider Marvel Games continuity. Intihar also emphasized that Wolverine won’t serve as a direct spin-off of the most recent “Spider-Man 2”, but fans who paid close attention to that game will recall Easter eggs pointing toward a larger superhero world beyond New York City.

However, when asked why the X-Men icon didn’t appear in that game, he said, “There was a decision not to do it… I think for us, we wanted to let that team cook, and who knows what the future holds, but right now let’s let them do their thing.”

The developer also clarified that the connection is mostly “universe-level” for now — there are no confirmed plans for an in-game crossover or shared missions — though it leaves the door wide open for future possibilities.

For players, the reveal cements Insomniac as the creative hub of Insomniac’s gaming universe, a studio capable of balancing drastically different tones: Spider-Man’s optimism and Wolverine’s ferocity. With the trailer now live and Earth-1048 officially confirmed, the prospect of these two worlds eventually colliding is no longer far-fetched — it’s just a matter of when.

Another question is whether or not the two characters will ever team up on the big screen. Despite the fact that there are collectively several movies starring Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and Spider-Man, the two heroes have yet to cross paths in live action. Where Jackman’s X-Men character is heading next following last year’s Deadpool & Wolverine remains to be seen, but our friendly wall-crawler will return with Tom Holland beneath the mask in the MCU’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which releases in theaters next July.
