Whoopi Goldberg is leaving The View, but her fans won’t have to be without her for long.

According to People Magazine, Whoopi Goldberg, co-host of Disney-owned ABC’s weekday morning talk show, will step away to pursue an acting endeavor about which she’s very excited.

“She’s gone for a while,” co-host Joy Behar said of her The View co-host Whoopi Goldberg. Goldberg will be filming an upcoming series adaptation of Neil Gaiman‘s Anansi Boys for Amazon Prime.

Goldberg, comedian, actress, and EGOT winner, will not be present during episodes of The View “for a while,” according to Joy Behar.

“If you’re wondering where Whoopi is, the girl’s got a movie she’s making and she will be back when she finishes whatever she’s doing,” Behar said.

It was only last week that Whoopi Goldberg joined the cast of Anansi Boys. Filming for the series is currently taking place in Scotland, according to Variety. Goldberg will play the role of the villainous Bird Woman. In the storyline, the dangerous god of the birds is looking to get her revenge against Anansi.

The adaptation is based on the 2005 fantasy novel, also called Anansi Boys, which tells the story of Charlie Nancy (Malachi Kirby) who discovers that his father, played by Delroy Lindo, was Anansi, the god of stories who doubles as a West African trickster. In the story, Charlie Nancy also learns he has a long-lost brother named Spider (also played by Malachi Kirby). It’s Spider who poses danger to Charlie’s life.

“I have been a fan of this book for a very long time, and when Neil Gaiman told me it was being brought to the screen, I did everything I could to be part of it to help make people aware of Anansi and all his magic,” Goldberg said in an interview with Variety.

Goldberg, who rose to fame as a comedian and after her role in Sister Act, was absent from The View earlier this year as she was suspended in February after she made hurtful and inaccurate comments she made about the Holocaust during an episode of The View.

During a discussion about a Pulitzer Prize-winning novel about the Holocaust, titled Maus, Whoopi Goldberg said that the “Holocaust isn’t about race.”

She later apologized for her comments before she was suspended from her role on The View for two weeks.

Joy Behar gave no definitive date for Goldberg’s return to the ABC talk show featuring an all-female group of panelists, only that she’ll be back when she’s finished filming the new series for Amazon Prime.
