Fans of Universal Orlando Resort have heard plenty of whispers about what this new land, set to open in 2025, will entail. As it turns out, much of the speculation was right, as Epic Universe will house the Wizarding World’s Ministry of Magic, SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, and much more!

Although Universal Studios fans are already excited enough about the new theme park addition coming to Orlando, in between news of a Celestial Park and How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, one particular detail certainly stands out for Disney World fans.

The Dark Universe

Not only will Epic Universe serve to expand the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and bring “relaxing gardens, a ‘wet play area,’ a grand carousel, and Starfall Racers, a dual-launch racing roller coaster with 5,000 feet of track and speeds up to 62 miles per hour” (per USA TODAY), it will also house the Dark Universe!

You may be asking yourself what the Dark Universe has to do with Walt Disney World. Well, the short answer is “nothing.” However, considering that Disney fans have been vocal regarding the need for a villain’s expansion to Walt Disney World for some time, the fact that the Florida-based Disney Resort is losing out to Universal Orlando is big news!

Dark Universe will undoubtedly bring the scares and bad apples out, as it is designed to please fans of Universal’s extremely popular Halloween Horror Nights event that takes place each fall.

According to USA Today, Universal has said that the Dark Universe area of the park will allow guests to “encounter everything from the experiments of Dr. Victoria Frankenstein to the shadowy landscape where monsters roam in a world of myth and mystery.”

Epic Universe Beats Walt Disney World

As Disney World is already behind the curve, ideally needing to build a new park to remain competitive with Universal Orlando, the fact that a theme park dedicated to dark themes and general no-goods is disheartening to Disney fans who’ve wanted a villain addition to Walt Disney World for some time.

Although Walt Disney World has announced that they will potentially be building a villain’s add-on to Magic Kingdom, once again, Universal has beat them to the proverbial punch.

As if a new Wizarding World location wasn’t enough of a draw for Universal guests, the promise of a brand-new villain-style land, complete with popular Universal Monsters, is surely something worth getting excited over, even for Disney World faithful.

The Rest of Epic Universe

When it comes to immersive theme park experiences, Universal Orlando Resort has proven time and again that it knows how to captivate visitors with its innovative attractions and thrilling adventures. And now, with the upcoming addition of Epic Universe, Universal Orlando is set to take the world of epic entertainment to a whole new level.

1. Unleashing the Dark Side:

Universal Orlando’s Dark Universe will be a one-of-a-kind destination that embraces the dark side of the Epic Universe. Unlike Disney World, which focuses on fairy tales and happy endings, Universal Orlando dares to delve into the twisted and captivating world of villainy.

The park will serve as a playground for the most iconic villains from beloved franchises, such as Dracula, Dr. Frankenstein, and the Wolfman. Prepare to be spellbound as you navigate through dark and immersive lands, where even the heroes themselves may have a touch of darkness.

2. Innovative and Immersive Attractions:

Universal Orlando is renowned for its cutting-edge technology and immersive attractions, and SUPER NINTENDO WORLD will be no exception.

Visitors can look forward to mind-blowing rides that push the boundaries of imagination and storytelling. Picture yourself battling alongside Marios and Luigi in reality-augmented racing made famous by the video game Mario Cart.

3. Wizarding World Expansion:

Although Walt Disney World got Star Wars in the end, Universal Studios Florida proved to be a formidable adversary with the acquisition of the famed Harry Potter series. Since then, the Universal Resort has seen the incorporation of Hogwarts and Hogsmeade at Islands of Adventure and the brilliantly themed Diagon Alley at Universal Studios.

As Universal Epic Universe expands on this iconic franchise, the introduction to such a recognizable landmark as the Ministry of Magic will surely draw the Potterheads by the thousands.

4. Rounding Out by Training Dragons:

Not as popular as other intellectual properties like Shrek, How to Train Your Dragon will also be a strong focal point of Epic Universe.

Guest will be able to relive iconic moments from the film franchise and learn to train and ride their own dragons as seen in the movies. Bioconstruct aerial photos on X (formerly Twitter) have showcased many of the highly themed additions that How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk will bring to the Epic Universe addition.

Disney Needs a Villains Park Badly

Unlike Walt Disney World, which hasn’t marketed a brand-new park since its 1998 opening of Animal Kingdom, Universal Studios, who just had a banner year dethroning the media juggernaut at the box office, seems to be on a path to success with this new park addition.

Disney, most certainly, at least in my opinion, is likely feeling the pressure as they’ve missed out on being first to introduce a theme park with a villain swing, despite fans clamoring for the addition for decades.

To make the presence of the new park even more intimidating, Epic Universe will also include its own inside-the-park lodging, something that also outperforms what Disney World has done right down the street.

Universal Helios Grand Hotel will call Celestial Park home within the Epic Universe and join two other new resorts, Universal Stella Nova Resort and Universal Terra Luna Resort, which will open soon.

Universal’s Epic Universe has certainly put other Orlando-based theme parks, like Walt Disney World, SeaWorld Orlando, and others, on notice with this incredible addition. As more theme park news is released concerning Epic Universe, Disney will have to make a decision at some point if they want to keep up with the expansive worlds that Universal Orlando plans to introduce in 2025.
