Universal Studios Closes 2 Rides for Good, New Orlando Attraction Already Taking Shape

Universal Studios Florida looks very different than it did just one year ago.

Two major rides are now permanently closed, including one attraction that didn’t even survive a full decade. At the same time, Universal is already building the next generation of the park.

Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit closed permanently in August 2025, clearing the way for a massive new Fast & Furious roller coaster. Now Fast & Furious: Supercharged has officially closed as well.

That leaves Universal with one replacement already taking shape and another enormous attraction building with an uncertain future.

Supercharged Has Given Its Final Ride

Fast & Furious: Supercharged permanently closed on August 17, following its final day of regular operation and an annual passholder-exclusive event on August 16.

Its departure happened earlier than Universal initially announced.

And there wasn’t much ambiguity about whether the attraction could somehow return.

Universal removed Supercharged from its official app and website. The attraction’s name was also painted over at the entrance shortly after it closed.

Supercharged originally opened in 2018, meaning the ride didn’t make it to its 10th anniversary.

While Supercharged is gone, Fast & Furious isn’t leaving Universal Studios Florida.

Actually, Universal is making a much bigger investment in the franchise.

Hollywood Drift Is Taking Over

Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit permanently closed in August 2025, ending a run that stretched back to 2009.

Universal is now using that space for Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, a new roller coaster scheduled to debut in 2027.

The project has become increasingly visible around the park, and construction recently reached one of its biggest milestones yet.

The final section of coaster track was installed this month.

That means guests can now see the physical ride taking shape while Universal continues working toward next year’s opening.

It’s a strange transition for the Fast & Furious franchise at Universal Studios Florida. Supercharged is disappearing just as Universal prepares to make Hollywood Drift one of the park’s newest major attractions.

But that still leaves the old Supercharged building.

Universal Has Another Huge Space to Fill

Universal hasn’t confirmed what will replace Supercharged.

And there may not be an immediate answer.

The former attraction sits inside a massive warehouse-style structure in the San Francisco section. A completely new franchise could require Universal to retheme the building and potentially make larger changes to the surrounding land.

Universal also has several other projects demanding attention around the resort.

Hollywood Drift remains under construction, demolition continues around the former Lost Continent at Islands of Adventure, and additional permitted projects are moving forward at Epic Universe.

For now, Universal is even using part of Supercharged’s former queue and facade area for Halloween Horror Nights. That makes a quick demolition project particularly unlikely.

One rumored possibility would involve keeping the ride system and 360-degree screen tunnel in place.

Universal could theoretically use the building as a flexible space where different temporary experiences rotate through over time. Back to the Future has been discussed online as one possible temporary overlay, though Universal hasn’t announced anything.

For now, the contrast couldn’t be clearer.

Universal Studios Florida has permanently closed two rides within roughly a year. Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit’s replacement is already towering over the park and moving toward a 2027 opening.

Fast & Furious: Supercharged’s replacement may require considerably more patience.
