Universal Orlando’s Volcano Bay is shutting down for three days this week due to cold temperatures and rain. The water park will remain closed from Tuesday, January 7, through Thursday, January 9, as weather conditions make it less than ideal for a day of splashing in the sun. This isn’t the first time this winter that Volcano Bay has temporarily closed—earlier dates on January 2, 3, and 4 were also impacted by the weather.
Orlando’s winter chill can be a dealbreaker for water parks, and this week is no exception. Forecasts predict that Tuesday’s temperatures will dip as low as 40 degrees Fahrenheit, with highs only reaching the mid-50s. The outlook for Wednesday and Thursday isn’t much better, with daytime highs barely climbing above the low 60s. In addition to the cold, rain is expected to linger through the weekend, which could mean even more closures if conditions don’t improve.
These weather-related closures are nothing new for Volcano Bay, as winter temperatures often dip below what most guests would find comfortable for water activities. Universal Orlando advises guests to stay up to date by checking their social media pages for any last-minute changes.
Winter closures can also extend to other attractions around the resort. While most thrill rides and indoor experiences stay open year-round, outdoor sections may occasionally close due to maintenance or inclement weather. The best way to plan a smooth visit is by checking ahead for any changes in the park’s schedule.
For guests looking for ways to make the most of their trip despite the weather, Universal’s indoor attractions are great alternatives. Popular options like Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey and Revenge of the Mummy offer plenty of excitement without the need to brave the elements. Whether it’s a brief water park closure or cooler-than-usual temperatures, Universal Orlando’s parks still have plenty to offer—just make sure to bring an extra layer!
