Top Reasons We’re SUPER Excited About Winter 2020 at Walt Disney World

Winter time has started at Walt Disney World (even if temperatures don’t reflect this) and we couldn’t be more excited.  Here are the top reasons we are SUPER excited about winter 2020 at Walt Disney World.

1. Decorations

One of the best parts about winter in Walt Disney World is the decorations.  All of the parks and resorts will be decorated for the holiday season and it is truly one of the most magical and beautiful times of the year to visit.  From the amazing Christmas trees to the small details, everything is decorated to bring holiday cheer to guests.

2. Treats

Along with the holiday decorations come the holiday treats.  The winter season in Walt Disney World sees the arrival of new and amazing themed treats.  Each park has specific treats themed to winter and that help make one feel nice and cozy. Try the hot chocolate in Hollywood Studios or the Let It Snow Taco – Sugar cookie in Magic Kingdom.  Both are just two of many great winters treats available.

3. Characters in Winter Clothes

We are used to seeing Mickey and Minnie in their traditional outfits, but during the winter season in Disney you can see them in their festive winter gear.  Princesses also can be seen in their winter clothes such as Belle in her velvet red dress.  This is so much fun to see as it is something different and unique that only winter time brings.

4. Cooler Temperatures

Another reason we get excited about visiting Walt Disney World in the winter is because of the weather.  During this time of year, temperatures start to cool off allowing us to bundle in a sweatshirt, hats and gloves and enjoy the days without heat and humidity that typically comes with a Disney vacation.

5. Darker Earlier

This might not be one that you think about; however, we enjoy that the parks get darker earlier.  With the holiday lights and projections, it is great to see the park transition to the evening and we like that we don’t have to stay up way late to do so.  The parks at night are a special experience and we are so glad the winter brings it to us earlier.

6. More Food Options

As winter 2020 is upon us, so are new dining options at the parks and resorts throughout the Walt Disney World property.  We are excited to be able to try some options such as Chef Mickeys with a new character experience starting mid-December as well as our old favorites such as Woody’ Lunch Box opening back up.   Having these dining options open back up makes us super excited to head to Disney this winter.

7. Limited Capacity

Winter months at Walt Disney World can bring with it a huge crowd, but not winter 2020.   This year Disney continues to limit capacity to help guests and cast members remain safe and socially distanced while enjoying their vacation.  With a lower capacity in place, this year will probably (let’s hope) see the lowest crowds ever during winter months.  This makes it a great and exciting time to visit.  You can enjoy all the perks of the winter without the crowds.

8. Festival of the Holidays

One of the best winter events happens in Epcot and is focused around the Festival of the Holidays.  This festival starts at the end of November and runs through December.  With it comes amazing food and drink options throughout the World Showcase.  We are always excited to try out these outstanding dishes and can’t wait to do so again this year.

Every time of year is a great time to visit Walt Disney World; however, winter 2020 has us super excited to head down and experience the magic.  From delicious foods to beautiful decorations, there is so much to look forward to this winter and we can’t wait to go.

About Jennifer Retzlaff

My name is Jennifer Retzlaff and I became a lifelong Disney fan during my first trip to Walt Disney World in 6th grade. From that moment, Disney became a big part of my life. I live in Iowa with my husband and two kids who are growing up too quickly for my liking. I started introducing my love for Disney early to my family with a Disney honeymoon and then trips when our youngest of 18 months. Since then, our family has been to Walt Disney World over five times and we continue to plan and dream for the next trip. I love the magic that Disney brings to people through the theme parks, cruises, adventures and movies they create. As a teacher, I try to bring that magic into my classroom to help kids believe that “If You Can Dream It, You Can Do It.” I recently reached a dream of mine as I joined Magic Vacation Planner as a personal travel advisor. With this team, I can now help others plan magical vacations. As a passionate writer, I also have my own blog at magicalvacationsbyjen which is also where you can follow me on instagram for trip reviews along with tips and tricks for your next magical vacation.
