Could Disney and Universal’s dominance in the world of theme Parks be over?
For decades, the Walt Disney Company has been the biggest name in theme park entertainment. The success of Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort catapulted Disney into worldwide theme park success. Currently, Disney has six resorts and twelve Parks worldwide, each of them unique and successful in its own way.
Close behind Disney is Universal Studios, which also has two successful Resorts in California and Orlando. With the upcoming opening of Universal Orlando’s Epic Universe, Universal is creeping up on Disney.
Now, a third theme Park is attempting to dethrone them both.
Disney and Universal Should Be Threatened by New Theme Park
Mattel, the renowned toy manufacturer, has announced its plans to open a Mattel Theme Park, known as the Mattel Adventure Park, in a bid to offer its fans an unforgettable experience based on their iconic lines of toys. The park promises to bring to life the magic of Mattel’s iconic brands, most importantly, Barbie.
While this Park had a lot of positive feedback when it was announced, it has undeniably blown up with the massive success of the Barbie movie. The film, which stars Margot Robbie and was directed by Greta Gerwig, has become a cultural phenomenon. Barbie has already surpassed the $1 billion mark, cementing the film as a bonafide hit.
With Barbie fever more rampant than ever, Mattel’s timing for a theme park could not be more perfect.
Fans Can Step Into Barbie-Land in New Theme Park
One of the things being praised in the film is its immaculate set-design and aesthetic choices. Fans all over the internet are obsessed with Barbie-land, and the thought of being able to visit that world is massively exciting for many. The land will even include The Barbie Beach House, a life-sized version of Barbie’s iconic mansion.
The theme park is set to open sometime in 2024, so the excitement around Barbie will definitely be able to ignite the launch. While no date has been set, fans can check in on the construction progress through a live feed on the Mattel website.
Mattel Adventure Park will be built near Glendale, Arizona, on a property spanning nine acres. Mark Cornell, the president of Epic Resort Destinations who is leading the project, states;
“Mattel Adventure Park features a unique and strategic year-round indoor/outdoor design providing acres of air-conditioned space to ensure a cool guest experience all summer long here in the heat of Arizona.”
As the wait for this park continues, fans can continue to enjoy Barbie in movie theatres across the globe.
