Surprise ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Teaser Drastically Transforms MCU Roster Ahead of Release
Marvel fans got another surprise on August 24, when a new Avengers: Doomsday (2026) trailer arrived with a very different take on the upcoming MCU blockbuster.
By now, audiences have already seen Marvel Studios bring together heroes from across its cinematic universe. The movie will feature returning Avengers, the Fantastic Four, X-Men characters, and one of Marvel’s biggest casting twists.
This new footage doesn’t reveal another character or give away a major piece of the story. Instead, it takes scenes fans have already seen and completely reimagines them.
The result has quickly given Marvel fans another reason to talk about Avengers: Doomsday ahead of its December release.

Marvel Is Preparing Its Next Massive Team-Up
Before getting to the new trailer, it’s worth looking at just how big Avengers: Doomsday has become.
Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.) will stand at the center of the conflict. Downey previously spent more than a decade playing Tony Stark/Iron Man, making his return as a completely different Marvel character one of the movie’s biggest draws.
He’ll face an enormous collection of heroes.
Chris Evans returns as Steve Rogers, while Chris Hemsworth plays Thor again. Anthony Mackie returns as Sam Wilson/Captain America alongside Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, and Tom Hiddleston as Loki.
The Fantastic Four will also join the action. Pedro Pascal plays Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby returns as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn plays Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach appears as Ben Grimm/The Thing.
Marvel isn’t stopping there.
Patrick Stewart returns as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, James Marsden as Cyclops, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, and Channing Tatum as Gambit.
With that lineup established, Marvel’s previous trailer showed fans what some of these unlikely combinations could actually look like.

The First Doomsday Trailer
Marvel Studios’ official Avengers: Doomsday trailer delivered several reunions and matchups designed to get longtime fans talking.
Professor X and Magneto both appear as Marvel brings its X-Men characters into the larger story. Elsewhere, Gambit comes face-to-face with Shang-Chi, creating an unexpected matchup between two heroes from very different parts of the Marvel universe.
Thor gets a much more dangerous encounter.
The God of Thunder attempts to bring Stormbreaker down on Doom, only for the villain to stop the attack with surprising ease.
Then Marvel saves a major reunion for the end.
Thor encounters Steve Rogers again, but the moment comes with a question of whether he’s really looking at his old friend. Steve answers that question by summoning Mjolnir, giving Thor the proof he needs.
Those moments already gave audiences plenty to dissect. Now, the same trailer has returned with an entirely different appearance.

A Familiar Trailer Gets a Completely New Look
LEGO released a shot-for-shot recreation of the Avengers: Doomsday trailer on August 24, rebuilding its characters, locations, and action with LEGO bricks and minifigures.
That means the trailer doesn’t merely borrow a few scenes from Marvel’s version.
Professor X, Magneto, Gambit, Shang-Chi, Thor, Steve Rogers, and the other characters all become minifigures. The settings also transform into brick-built environments, giving the entire trailer the appearance of a LEGO Marvel movie.
Fans quickly took notice.
Social media users praised the recreation and called for LEGO to take the idea even further. Some wanted to see an entire LEGO version of Avengers: Doomsday, while others said the trailer increased their excitement for the officially announced LEGO sets based on the movie.
It’s a clever way to revisit footage Marvel fans already know without simply releasing the same trailer.
More importantly, it comes as the countdown to the actual movie continues.

December Will Bring the Real Heroes Back
Avengers: Doomsday (2026) opens exclusively in theaters on December 18, 2026.
When it arrives, Marvel will bring together Avengers, Fantastic Four members, X-Men characters, and other familiar faces for one of the MCU’s biggest crossover events.
Robert Downey Jr.’s return adds another layer to that excitement. After audiences knew him for years as Iron Man, they’ll now see the actor take on Doctor Doom as a major threat to Marvel’s heroes.
Plenty about the story remains unanswered, including how Steve Rogers has returned and what will bring all these different characters together.
For now, LEGO has given fans another entertaining way to experience the trailer while they wait. The real heroes won’t become minifigures when Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters this December, but this unexpected recreation makes the wait a little more fun.
