Disney Is Going All-In on Summer

May 26, 2026, stands out as a major launch date. On that day, several new experiences are set to debut across the resort. A Muppets-themed coaster is finally expected to open, giving guests something brand-new to look forward to. At Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Bluey’s Wild World is designed to give younger guests more interactive play space.
At the same time, Disney is expanding its family entertainment lineup. The new Walt Disney World Courtyard and Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live! are part of that push, adding more options for younger visitors.
Even earlier, on May 22, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run is set to receive a new Mandalorian mission featuring Grogu and Din Djarin. That update alone is expected to draw major crowds to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Layer in the return of Cool Kids Summer and a wave of discounts and vacation bundles, and it’s clear Disney is doing everything it can to make this a high-demand season.
But while the additions are exciting, they come with trade-offs.
Big Thunder Mountain Opens the Door for More Riders
After more than a year of work, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is back as of May 3, 2026. The attraction didn’t just reopen—it came back with updates, including a refreshed storyline and the return of Rainbow Caverns.
That alone is enough to grab attention, but there’s another change families are watching closely.
Disney has lowered the height requirement.
The ride previously required guests to be at least 40 inches tall. Now, that threshold sits at 38 inches. It may seem minor, but for parents with younger kids, that difference matters.
Big Thunder is often the first “big” coaster for many families. Opening it up to more riders means more kids can experience it sooner. It also helps distribute crowds across more attractions.
The downside is simple: more riders usually mean longer waits. Planning ahead will matter even more if this ride is high on your list.
Stroller Rules Are Being Taken Seriously
For families with little ones, stroller rules are nothing new. But this summer, Disney is putting more focus on enforcement.
Strollers must stay within the size limit of 31 inches wide and 52 inches long. Stroller wagons remain completely banned. These rules aren’t just suggestions anymore—guests are being stopped and redirected when they don’t comply.
Inside the parks, strollers must stay out of attraction queues and be parked in designated areas. On buses, they must be folded before boarding. Escalators are also off-limits.
Disney is strongly encouraging collapsible strollers, especially for guests using transportation systems such as buses or the Skyliner gondolas.

A Popular Perk Returns, But Not for Everyone

In 2025, Disney offered free water park admission year-round on check-in day to hotel guests. In 2026, that benefit is limited to summer stays.
Guests visiting between May 26 and September 8 can still take advantage of free water park entry on arrival day. Outside that window, the perk disappears.
There is a positive change, though. Both Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach are expected to operate during this period, giving guests more flexibility. Last year, only one park was typically open at a time.
That added choice should help distribute the crowd and give families a better overall experience.
