Subscribers Slam Disney+ for Stripping Essential Streaming Tool Despite Ongoing Price Hikes

A growing number of Disney+ subscribers are voicing frustration after noticing a popular feature had suddenly vanished from the streaming platform without warning.

There was no official statement from Disney explaining the change. No update appeared inside the app. Users simply logged in and realized a tool they regularly used was no longer there.

The backlash comes at a difficult time for Disney+.

Many subscribers already feel frustrated by rising prices, account-sharing restrictions, and major interface changes that have steadily altered how the platform operates. Now, another update has pushed some users even further toward irritation.

Disney+ Built Its Reputation Around Convenience

Disney+ exploded in popularity after its 2019 launch. The service quickly positioned itself as the home for Disney’s biggest entertainment brands, including Marvel, Pixar, Star Wars, National Geographic, and classic Disney movies.

That massive library helped attract millions of subscribers.

Families appreciated how easy it felt to jump between newer projects like The Mandalorian and animated hits like Frozen II while also revisiting older Disney Channel programming. The platform initially felt straightforward to browse.

But Disney+ has changed dramatically since those early years.

As the streaming competition intensified, Disney expanded internationally, added more mature content in some markets, and eventually integrated Hulu directly into the Disney+ experience for many U.S. users.

At the same time, the platform’s interface continued evolving.

Some users welcomed those updates, while others felt the app slowly became more cluttered and more dependent on algorithm-based recommendations.

Frustration Has Been Building for Years

The latest removal is only adding to the frustrations already growing among Disney+ subscribers.

One of the biggest complaints centered around Disney’s decision to combine Hulu and Disney+ into a more unified streaming experience. Disney viewed the move as a way to compete more aggressively with services like Netflix, but some subscribers felt it made browsing more confusing.

Then came password-sharing crackdowns.

Disney+ joined other major streamers in tightening rules around account sharing outside of households. Users who had previously shared accounts with family members suddenly encountered new limitations and alerts.

Subscription prices also continued increasing.

What once felt like one of the cheaper streaming options slowly became more expensive as Disney rolled out higher-priced premium plans, ad-supported tiers, and expanded bundles.

As a result, many subscribers feel less patient when popular features disappear.

Disney+ Quietly Removed Alphabetical Browsing

The latest issue involves Disney+ removing its A-Z alphabetical browsing tool.

For years, the feature allowed subscribers to browse titles alphabetically, rather than relying entirely on homepage recommendations or search suggestions. Many users found it much easier to navigate the platform that way.

Now, the feature appears to be missing entirely.

Disney has not publicly explained why it disappeared, leaving subscribers to speculate about the cause. Some believe the growing Hulu integration may have complicated the older browsing system due to the massive amount of additional content now included inside Disney+.

Without the A-Z option, users mainly browse through genre rows, curated collections, trending sections, and recommendation-based categories.

Not everyone likes that approach.

Subscribers Say the App Feels More Controlled

Many users argue that the alphabetical feature gave them freedom to explore the platform at their own pace.

Instead of relying on Disney’s algorithm to decide what appeared on-screen, subscribers could simply scroll through the catalog themselves. Some viewers say the feature helped them rediscover forgotten movies or locate lesser-known content that rarely appeared on the homepage.

Others say its removal increases decision fatigue.

Rather than casually browsing through an organized list, subscribers now spend more time bouncing between categories and recommendations, trying to decide what to watch.

The frustration has become strong enough that many users are now asking whether Disney+ plans to restore the feature later.

There Is Still a Chance It Could Return

Interestingly, this is not the first time Disney+ has removed alphabetical browsing.

The company removed the feature years ago during another major expansion period, only to bring it back following subscriber complaints.

That history has given some users hope that the current removal may not be permanent.

Still, the situation reflects a much larger issue that many streaming subscribers now feel across the industry. Customers increasingly believe platforms are prioritizing algorithms and curated recommendations over simple user control.

For Disney+, that growing frustration may become harder to ignore if subscriber complaints continue building.
