‘Star Wars’ Remake Gets Major Update Ahead of Franchise’s 50th Anniversary
Luke Skywalker has faced the Empire, confronted Darth Vader, and helped save the galaxy. In 2027, however, he will have some very different allies by his side — including Spider-Man, Captain America, and the Avengers.
That’s the premise behind Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles, an upcoming six-issue crossover that puts the characters of A New Hope (1977) in Marvel’s Earth-616 universe. With the two franchises approaching a major shared milestone, the project is getting a fresh promotional push, including a newly unveiled preview of its interior artwork.

Shared by Marvel.com, the pages show Marvel heroes squaring off against stormtroopers, while the accompanying cover variants promise even stranger sights. One features Luke Skywalker swinging alongside Spider-Man; another puts Darth Vader in possession of the Infinity Gauntlet. Elsewhere, Captain America asks Ben Grimm, also known as the Thing, about the white-armored soldiers, referring to them as “canned hams” from the Star Wars movie.
That last detail is particularly amusing: within the crossover’s story, Star Wars is itself a movie.
Written by Kevin Smith and illustrated by David Marquez, Hope Assembles arrives in January 2027. The release comes 50 years after Marvel first published a Star Wars comic, the same year George Lucas’ original film introduced audiences to Luke, Leia, Han, and the rest of the galaxy.

A Big Year for Star Wars
The crossover is just one part of the franchise’s 50th-anniversary plans. Lucasfilm is also bringing the original A New Hope back to theaters for a limited engagement beginning February 19, 2027.
Other celebrations include Star Wars: Gobaith Newydd, a Welsh-language version of the 1977 movie scheduled to premiere on S4C and its streaming platforms on Christmas Day, 2026. Meanwhile, Philadelphia’s Franklin Institute will host Star Wars: The Experience – A Journey Through the Galaxy, opening in February 2027.
Another anniversary release is Star Wars: A New Hope – Triple Take, a comic that revisits the original story through three different perspectives: Luke’s, Leia’s, and Han’s.
Between these projects and the Marvel crossover, the anniversary year is shaping up to offer fans several new ways to revisit the film that started it all.
