‘Star Wars: A New Hope’ Is Getting a Major Extended Version After 50 Years
The original Star Wars film may have received several different versions over the years, but Lucasfilm has now found a rather unusual way to expand A New Hope for its 50th anniversary.
There’s no new footage being inserted into George Lucas’ 1977 movie and no additional runtime. Instead, fans are getting more of the story by seeing the same legendary adventure through three completely different sets of eyes.
That’s the concept behind Star Wars: A New Hope: Triple Take (2027), the upcoming graphic novel from writers Chas! Pangburn and Kim Shearer.

The story revisits the events of A New Hope through the eyes of Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, and Han Solo, allowing each character to tell the story in their own way.
Publisher Simon & Schuster describes it as a “multi-perspective retelling”, with three distinct visual storytelling styles reflecting the personalities and memories of its central characters.
In practical terms, that means a familiar scene can become something completely different depending on whose story you’re following.
And that’s where the idea of an “extended version” becomes interesting. The original 1977 film gives audiences the events, but Triple Take gives them the memories and the perspectives.
It doesn’t alter the movie or replace anything Lucas created — it simply fills out the story by exploring how three characters who lived the same adventure might remember it differently.
For a movie that has been analyzed and discussed for almost 50 years, that’s a surprisingly simple way to make A New Hope feel entirely new again.
Lucasfilm initially announced the graphic novel for February 2027; however, the current publisher listing gives it an April 27, 2027 release date.
