Lucasfilm Just Sent a Clear Message About Gina Carano’s Return To ‘Star Wars’
The Mandalorian has returned in a very different form, with a new LEGO special revisiting some of the biggest moments and characters from the Disney+ series. But one familiar face is conspicuously absent.
LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian revisits stories and characters from across all three seasons of the hit series, bringing back several actors to voice their familiar roles. Other characters have been recast for the animated project, including Din Djarin, Greef Karga, Luke Skywalker, and the Client.
Yet Cara Dune doesn’t appear to have made the trip to LEGO form. Watch the trailer below:
The character was one of the most prominent supporting players in the first two seasons of The Mandalorian, with Gina Carano playing the former Rebel shock trooper alongside Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin.
But despite the new special revisiting the events of those early seasons, Lucasfilm has opted not to recast Dune. Instead, she has been left out entirely.
On its own, the omission might not seem particularly unusual. But it takes on a different meaning when viewed alongside Cara Dune’s increasingly complicated history within the franchise.

What Happened to Cara Dune?
Carano was fired by Lucasfilm in 2021 after the actress shared controversial posts on social media. She had appeared throughout the first two seasons of The Mandalorian, but the character was never recast after her departure.
Dune was subsequently written out of the series, with her absence addressed during Season 3 in 2023. Since then, she has disappeared from the wider Star Wars universe.
That was notable because Lucasfilm’s relationship with Carano appeared to soften somewhat after the actress sued Disney and Lucasfilm. The lawsuit was settled in 2025, and the studio’s statement praised Carano’s professionalism while suggesting that future opportunities could potentially be explored.
Carano also revealed earlier this year that she had reconnected with Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, prompting renewed speculation that Cara Dune could eventually return.
But that never happened.
The character was absent from The Mandalorian & Grogu, and Lucasfilm has now passed up another opportunity to bring her back by excluding her from a project that revisits the original series.
At this point, the message seems increasingly clear: whatever future Gina Carano may have hoped for in Star Wars, Lucasfilm doesn’t appear to be planning a return for Cara Dune.

On another note. I cancelled my Disney plus subscription, a subscription I’ve had since its inception in the UK, for a couple of reasons, 1, its not showing anything new on a regular basis AND they are now giving me ITV, GASP! I live in Britain, I GET ITV for free, but more importantly, 2, Disney has proven that the only opinions its staff may have, are those sanctioned BY Disney. That’s called fascism. Furthermore, they seem to think they can churn out garbage, and call it ” Marvel ‘. They have done the superhero genre to death, and the ABYSMAL James Gunn took the same attitude to DC. I’M betting he and Safran will be gone from DC by Christmas.
So, Disney, KNOW your audience, dont treat them like disposable garbage JUST because you got it right for a while.
100% she should return to Star Wars. She should never have been, “cancelled” in the first place. Additionally, George Lucas needs to come back and take over the helm for future Star Wars Movies. whomever is overseeing these films has lost the script of what the early movies embodied. this last film doesn’t even feel like a star Wars film.
They were stupid to write Cara Dune out of the series in the first place. But they seem to be cutting off their nose to spite their face all the time.Gina Carano helped to make the series as good as it was. If they weren’t so worried about saving face they would have brought her back as soon as they got word from the fans about their choice.
