In late February, Russian President Vladimir Putin decided to launch an unprovoked attack on the neighboring country of Ukraine. Even though the world has condemned the actions of the Russian military, Putin has shown no signs of slowing down. Russia has launched military strikes in a number of cities and towns. They recently also bombed a children’s and maternity hospital.
To date, an estimated 2 million Ukrainians have fled the country to neighboring countries like Poland. Many children have been separated from their parents, who have returned to fight against the Russian invasion once their children are safe. Other Ukrainians have found themselves unable to flee and have taken to hiding in underground bomb shelters in an attempt to stay safe. Many companies, including Disney, have stopped doing business in Russia in an attempt to help cripple the economy.
Even though Ukraine is suffering massive devastation, there are still moments of light. One of those moments is making the rounds on social media. A young Ukrainian girl stands in what looks like a bomb shelter, and she sings a song to all the people with her. They are all quiet as they listen to her, and many of them film her with smiles on their faces. Although she is singing in Ukrainian, many Disney fans will be able to recognize that she is singing a “Let It Go” from the 2013 film Frozen — originally sung by superstar .

According to CNN, the young girl is named Amelia. She was in a bomb shelter in the Ukrainian capital city of Kyiv. The woman who filmed the young girl asked her what she wanted to do when she grew up, and the girl said that she wanted to be a “singer on a grand stage”. The woman then tells the young girl, “why not start now?” From there, the young girl breaks out into song, which seems to bring a moment of solace to the other people she is with.
The video of Amelia quickly went viral and even caught the attention of Frozen songwriter Kristen Anderson-Lopez. Anderson-Lopez shared the video and praised the young girl for her unending spirit.
Dear Little Girl with the beautiful voice, My husband and I wrote this song as part of a story about healing a family in pain. The way you sing it is like a magic trick that spreads the light in your heart and heals everyone who hears it. Keep singing! We are listening!

What is happening in Ukraine is truly devastating. However, seeing moments like this can truly make you realize that they still have hope. Ukrainians have been doing their best to keep the world updated on what is happening. This includes Ukrainian dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy, from the hit show Dancing With the Stars. Chmerkovskiy was in Ukraine when the invasion occurred, but has since fled and is safely back in the United States with his family.
At this time, we do not know if Amelia is still in the bomb shelter or if she has been able to flee the country.
