A beloved Walt Disney World Resort roller coaster is showing noticeable signs of wear, and it doesn’t seem like a fix is coming anytime soon. Recent photos reveal visible damage to elements of the Slinky Dog Dash queue, raising concerns among fans about upkeep at the Most Magical Place on Earth.
Slinky Dog Dash Showing Signs of Wear
During a recent visit to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, a Disney Dining team member spotted unrepaired damage to Slinky Dog Dash, the popular Toy Story Land roller coaster. The outdoor coaster, which first welcomed guests in June 2018, has remained a fan favorite, consistently drawing some of the longest wait times in the theme park. However, its vibrant, oversized toy theming appears to be taking hits from guests.
Slinky Dog Dash invites guests into Andy’s backyard, where the young Toy Story (1995) protagonist has pieced together a roller coaster using his “Dash & Dodge Mega Coaster Kit.” The experience is packed with playful details, including a single animatronic—Wheezy the penguin from Toy Story 2 (1999)—serenading guests at the end of the ride. But while the attraction’s thrills remain strong, its physical appearance tells a different story.
Guests Notice Peeling Theming Elements
Guests can find an oversized sticker set near the queue’s standby and Lightning Lane merge point, appearing as part of the “Dash & Dodge Mega Coaster Kit.” These faux decals, mimicking playful decorations Andy would have added to his coaster, are now suffering from years of guest interaction. Layers of peeling paint reveal beige surfaces beneath, creating an unfinished and worn look.
Of course, the material isn’t actually sticky—despite its appearance, the “stickers” are purely decorative. Unfortunately, the temptation has proven too much for some Walt Disney World Resort guests, who have picked away at the surface over time, exposing the faded underlayer.
No Scheduled Refurbishment for Slinky Dog Dash
While Walt Disney World Resort regularly schedules refurbishments to maintain its attractions, there are currently no announced plans to address these cosmetic issues at Slinky Dog Dash. Small-scale aesthetic wear like this is often left unattended until a ride undergoes a broader refurbishment or maintenance period.
