Significant Damages Reported at Universal Orlando; Water Park Entrance “Shredded” by Hurricane

Hurricane Milton, which swept through Orlando earlier this week, left its mark on one of Central Florida’s most popular water parks. The entrance canopy at Universal’s Volcano Bay suffered significant damage, with one side of the tenting shredded by the storm’s high winds and heavy rain. Park officials quickly removed the torn fabric, and despite the damage, Volcano Bay is open today for visitors.

Beloved Water Park Suffers Damages

Volcano Bay is Universal Orlando Resort’s premier water theme park, designed to transport guests to a lush, tropical oasis inspired by Polynesian islands. Opened in 2017, the park features the iconic Krakatau volcano, which towers 200 feet above the park and serves as the centerpiece for several thrilling water slides, wave pools, and river rides. It’s a popular destination for guests looking to cool off and experience unique, immersive attractions in a tropical paradise setting.

The water park offers a wide variety of attractions, from adrenaline-pumping water slides like the Ko’okiri Body Plunge to more relaxing experiences such as the Kopiko Wai Winding River. Volcano Bay’s innovative TapuTapu wearable system also allows guests to reserve rides virtually, reducing wait times and enhancing their experience.

Impact of Hurricane Milton

Hurricane Milton, a powerful storm that moved through the Orlando area earlier this week, caused temporary closures across all theme parks. With winds reaching high speeds, the storm damaged the fabric covering the water park’s entrance. The force of the hurricane was strong enough to rip one side of the tent, creating a dramatic scene as pieces of the canopy flapped and tore in the wind.

As a safety precaution, Universal Orlando Resort temporarily closed Volcano Bay as the storm passed through. Once it had passed, park officials acted quickly, assessing the extent of the damage and beginning the removal of the shredded fabric as soon as it was safe. The closure allowed for necessary repairs and cleanup, ensuring the park could reopen as soon as possible.

Swift Recovery and Reopening

The torn fabric at the entrance has since been removed, and park operations have resumed. Volcano Bay reopened its gates today, welcoming visitors eager to return to its tropical attractions. Universal Orlando Resort has assured guests that the park is safe and that all attractions are fully operational despite the visible absence of the entrance canopy.

While Hurricane Milton caused temporary disruptions, Universal Orlando Resort’s swift action to repair the damage highlights its commitment to guest safety and experience. Park officials are expected to assess whether a new canopy or a temporary solution will be implemented at the entrance in the coming days.
