Universal Orlando Resort Announces Total Closure Due to Hurricane Milton

Hurricane Milton, which recently intensified to a Category 4 hurricane, is expected to make landfall on Florida’s west coast within the next 36 hours. While its precise track remains uncertain, forecasts suggest that Milton could hit areas near Tampa Bay. Central Florida, including Orlando, is bracing for heavy rainfall, destructive winds, and possible tornadoes as the storm moves through the region. Experts warn that Hurricane Milton has the potential to be one of the most damaging storms in nearly a century, prompting widespread preparations.

Universal Orlando Resort has announced significant operational changes in response to Hurricane Milton. The park will close early on October 9, with Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, and Universal CityWalk shutting their doors at 2 PM.

A total closure will follow on October 10, affecting all attractions, including the popular Halloween Horror Nights event, which has been canceled for both days. The operational adjustments aim to ensure the safety of guests and staff as Hurricane Milton approaches.

Due to Hurricane Milton, Universal Orlando Resort is making the following operational changes for Wednesday, Oct. 9 and Thursday, Oct. 10.

  • On Wednesday, Oct. 9, Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure and Universal CityWalk will be open until 2 p.m. and will be closed on Thursday, Oct. 10. (*Note: Hours of operation are subject to change based on forecast alterations and some attraction and experience availability may be limited on Wednesday as we prepare for an early closure)
  • Universal Volcano Bay will be closed Wednesday, Oct. 9 and Thursday, Oct. 10.
  • Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Florida is canceled for Wednesday, Oct. 9 and Thursday, Oct. 10.
  • Our hotels remain operational as they focus on taking care of our guests.

We anticipate a full reopening of our destination, including Halloween Horror Nights, on Friday, Oct. 11 at our normal operating hours pending the outcome of storm impacts.

Universal Orlando Resort is offering flexibility for guests affected by Hurricane Milton. Those with planned vacations scheduled within seven days of the storm can reschedule or cancel their bookings without incurring any fees.

In addition to Universal Orlando’s closures, Orlando International Airport will cease operations starting at 8 AM on October 9. SeaWorld Orlando has also announced that it will close on both October 9 and 10 due to the impending storm.

Similarly, Walt Disney World is enacting emergency measures, including blocking reservations and preparing cast members for potential severe weather. These proactive steps illustrate the serious nature of Hurricane Milton and underscore the community’s combined efforts to ensure guest safety.
