Mark Hamill, best known for his legendary role as Luke Skywalker in the franchise, accompanied Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd at the Hollywood Walk of Fame star ceremony. Hamill and Fisher were very close, and Lourd even refers to him as her “space uncle.” Carrie Fisher tragically passed away at the end of 2016 from a heart attack and is honored posthumously.

Here’s part of Billie’s touching tribute to her later mother and Star Wars icon:

Leia has become like a family heirloom. And not just for my family. I’m not unique. … People’s love for Leia didn’t die with my mom; it continues to get passed on from generation to generation, just like my mom passed it on to me and I am now passing it on to my children and hopefully they will pass it on to theirs. Playing the iconic Princess Leia would be more than enough on its own.

By my mom isn’t just Princess Leia — she is Carrie Fisher. She was an incredible actress who infused her wit and strength into every character she played from her first role at only 16 years old in Shampoo to her last role in Catastrophe. My mom was glitter. She covered her world in it both literally and metaphorically. She left a mark of her sparkle on everyone she met.

Here’s a glimpse of what Mark Hamill had to say:

Carrie was one of a kind who belonged to us all, whether we liked it or not. She was our princess, dammit. And the actress who played her blurred into one gorgeous, fiercely independent, and ferociously funny take-charge woman who took our collective breath away, determined and tough, but with a vulnerability that made you root for her and want her to succeed and be happy.

Billie Lourd wore a sparkly floor-length dress with Princess Leia on it. C3PO, R2D2, Hamill, and Lourd took pictures by the freshly unveiled star. Fisher’s star can be found near Mark Hamill’s on 6840 Hollywood Boulevard and across the street from her mother’s, Debbie Reynolds.

Lourd publicly confirmed that she had not invited her mother’s siblings due to their actions following the sudden deaths of her mother and grandmother.

Hopefully, Carrie is celebrating her honor on this Star Wars day somewhere beyond the stars.

About Lana Porter

Lana has never lost a Disney Trivia night. Maybe it’s the hundreds of times she’s been to Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, her love for Disney’s ’90’s era hand-animated musicals, or the fact that she’s often likened to cartoon characters, but Disney and its magic have a special place in her heart. Her favorite Disney experiences include the EPCOT Food and Wine Festival, eating Mickey Bars on the PeopleMover, and crying during the Magic Kingdom fireworks show. One day she hopes to be chosen as the rebel spy on Star Tours. When Lana isn’t Park Hopping, she’s at home reading books of all topics, watching her favs on Disney+, or snuggling her two cats, which she swears are not named after Disney characters. She loves surprising people with her knowledge of the Marvel Cinematic Universe but admits she is still catching up with Star Wars. She is happy to combine her excitement for writing with her love for Disney-style storytelling and share what she can with the world!
