“Here You Leave Today And Enter The World Of Yesterday, Tomorrow And Fantasy”

Those, as you may recognize, are the words that greet guests as they walk through the tunnels and out onto Main Street, U.S.A., in The Happiest Place on Earth, Disneyland. Disneyland Park opened in 1955 and was Walter Elias Disney’s long-fought theme park vision brought to life.

What made Disneyland so unique was that it centered around the fantastical Sleeping Beauty Castle, which was the hub. Then, like a wheel, there were lands surrounding the castle like spokes. Main Street, U.S.A., led to Sleeping Beauty Castle, and guests could then head off to Adventureland, Frontierland, Fantasyland, and Tomorrowland.

Since then, Disneyland Park has expanded and now includes Critter Country, New Orleans Square, Mickey’s ToonTown, and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

While lands like Adventureland, Fantasyland, and Frontierland could remain the same and have the same vibe for years to come, Tomorrowland was the land that showed what the world could be. However, the world is constantly changing, and things are nowhere near the same as they were nearly 70 years ago.

Unfortunately, Tomorrowland has not kept up with the changes as much as Disneyland guests would like. Many think that Tomorrowland seems relatively dated. For years, they have been begging Disney to give Tomorrowland the overhaul it so desperately needs.

And now, after all this time, it seems that Disney might finally be moving forward with transforming Tomorrowland into a more current-themed land that actually reflects its original intent.

Theme park influencer Five Fires (@thecalibae) recently shared a rumor that Disney was taking bids for a Tomorrowland construction project. After some digging, he found that there was more and more evidence that the rumor was actually true.

“RUMOR” That construction companies have put bids already for Tomorrowland construction project. First time hearing about this but what could it possibly be for? People Mover? Maybe just a land refurb? Something finally being done in Launch Bay? What are your thoughts? #disneyland

A former Disneyland cast member then chimed in on what he had heard. They said that a “new Tomorrowland” would be happening, but it would not be the complete overhaul that some think it needs. Instead, some rides would be getting upgrades, and the Tomorrowland Theater — which housed Captain EO — would be going away.

As far as I’m aware, “New Tomorrowland” is happening. But don’t get too excited. We are looking at an overhaul of existing infrastructure, not a rebuild. Think of it as a higher budget redo but at the scale of Tomorrowland 98’

We will get at least one new attraction. Star Tours and Space Mountain will remain mostly unchanged. Massive overhaul/retheme of Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters and Galactic Grill. Tomorrowland Theater to be removed and replaced.

It is important to note that Disney has not confirmed anything at this point. However, we are just several weeks away from the D23 Expo. D23 is the ultimate fan event, full of incredible performances, rare merchandise, and panels that give Disney fans information on upcoming movies, television shows, and theme park updates.

So, it is possible that Disney is waiting until D23 to share the changes coming to Tomorrowland. Of course, many are hoping that more information on DisneylandForward — the massive Disneyland Resort expansion — is shared as well.

Do you think Tomorrowland at Disneyland needs a big overhaul? Let us know in the comments!

  1. Other than the original, dated Tomorrowland in WDW, I liked the steampumk revamp best.
