Review: Tony’s Town Square Restaurant, Magic Kingdom, Walt Disney World

Ordered: Seasonal Melon with Prosciutto $6.99; Margherita Pizza with Pizza Sauce, Fresh Mozzarella, garnished with Fresh Basil $14.99; Eggplant Catasta(Stack) with layers of Eggplant, Caramelized Onions, Fresh Mozzarella, and Parmesan with Marinara Sauce over Penne Pasta $16.99. Lemonade and Iced Tea $2.99 each, were also ordered.

This is a welcoming turn of the century Italian eatery that is in a great location at the front of the Magic Kingdom. Many pass it by in a quick walk from the entrance, down Main Street and head into the many directions at the hub. This place is worth a stroll through, the theming is great! The food however is mediocre.

Fans of the Disney classic “Lady and the Tramp” will really enjoy this restaurant. The restaurant is reminiscent of the movie with the heart and paw prints in the concrete outside, the “living room” where you wait to be seated (where you can also watch the movie on the TV set), a beautiful fountain of the two stars, many drawings and full color art hanging on the walls, and the stain glassed windows with the lovely canine couple will warm their hearts. The atmosphere is delightful!

There is a romantic dining room that has low mood lighting, a sunroom, and an “outside” area. The sunroom feels like a glass gazebo with windows on all the walls and the ceiling. This outside area is a great place to observe the people in Town Square and to watch the parades from. The tables are marble topped with iron garden chairs. As always the Disney theming is spot on.

When ordering we noticed that the drinks were not listed on the menu. The waiter listed lemonade as an option which my daughter chose. It came out as something pink and did not taste like “lemonade”. My soda was flat so I requested a switch to Iced Tea which the waiter did bring several minutes later. It would be nice for the soft drinks to be listed on the menu so there are no surprises when your beverage is delivered. The restaurant can get loud and the waiter was not clear in enunciating so rather than ask repeatedly what was said, it would be easier to have the choices listed on the menu.

Someone other than our waiter brought our food to the table so I believe there is a team approach to serving the guests here. I noticed our waiter watching as I inspected and removed the unsavory leaf from my dish but he did not remove it from the table or return to ask how we liked our meals. Had he checked on us I would have requested my platter be reheated as it was cold in the center of the stack. The penne pasta was also cold yet seemed to have been cooked properly. If the temperature could have been addressed I am sure the dish would have been better.

F.A.S.T. Review

F-Food: The Seasonal Melon with Prosciutto arrived quickly and the melon was perfect. The Prosciutto was slightly discolored from normal and the taste was a bit off. The entrees were slow to arrive. The pizza looked great and tasted great. The Eggplant came with a slice of bread that was too hard to eat and a strange green leaf that was wilted and turning black. Putting that on my plate was not appetizing. The Eggplant stack was cold in the middle but otherwise tasty. I am the only eggplant fan in my family and when I get the chance to order it when out, I usually love it. The portions are very large so ordering dessert was not an option. We left very full. In the middle of the day at a theme park, I would prefer a small salad accompanying a smaller entrée which may also reduced the cost of the meal. The sauce has little flavor and the food was overpriced.

A-Atmosphere: The atmosphere is wonderful! My daughter is a huge fan of the movie and characters and was delighted to see all the “Lady and the Tramp” touches there were throughout the restaurant.

S-Service: We found our service to be slow and not as attentive as the other Disney table service restaurants. It was a busy afternoon but in the summer especially refills should always be offered. I would have asked the waiter to reheat my dish if he had come back to the table to check on our meal. When I asked for the Cast Member Discount I was told they no longer offered that. It took us 20 minutes to pay for the meal. Our waiter was Daniel.

T-Tips: Take the time to visit all the areas of the restaurant while you wait for your meal, or on your way out. It truly has delightful surprises throughout for Lady and the Tramp fans. The outside eating area seemed to be much louder than the inside dining room so ask for the atmosphere you prefer to have. You can time your meal to watch the parades from the outside dining area. Don’t miss the heart with the paw prints that are stamped into the sidewalk out front!

Cassie L. I am a lifelong Disney fan. I attended Walt Disney World in 1971, and was there during the opening week of EPCOT, and have visited the Disney Parks for than 30 times. I have had the privilege of visiting Disneyland as a child, and then again with my children. My family recently moved from the northeastern United States to the Walt Disney World area. I now have cast members in my family and enjoy hearing the magical stories at the end of a shift. I love visiting all of the parks and getting to try more Disney food and being able to share it with you to help you plan your own magical day at Disney.
