Report: Marvel Studios Adds Massive Surprise Cameos in Extended ‘Doomsday’ Reshoots
Avengers: Doomsday (2026) already has one of the biggest casts Marvel Studios has ever assembled. Apparently, the studio may not be done adding familiar faces.
With the December 18 release only months away, Doomsday has completed principal photography and gone through additional filming. Now, a new insider report claims Marvel is still working on the movie.
That alone isn’t necessarily surprising for a blockbuster this large. The more interesting question is what Marvel might be adding.
According to insider Daniel Richtman, the latest work could involve bringing even more Marvel characters into an already crowded crossover. And some major heroes remain missing from the confirmed lineup.
Marvel Has Already Assembled an Enormous Cast
Before getting into the rumored additions, it’s worth remembering just how many characters Marvel has already brought together.
Joe and Anthony Russo are directing Avengers: Doomsday (2026) after previously directing Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019).
Robert Downey Jr. will also return to the MCU, although he won’t reprise Tony Stark. This time, he’ll play Victor von Doom.

Even with all those characters accounted for, Marvel could still have some surprises waiting.
A New Report Points to More Cameos
Richtman recently reported that Marvel Studios is “still doing reshoots” for Avengers: Doomsday (2026).
He also claimed production on Avengers: Secret Wars (2027) won’t begin until “the end of September.”
But Richtman’s follow-up report offered a possible explanation for why Marvel continues working on Doomsday.
According to the insider, Marvel is “adding a lot of cameos” to the movie during additional photography.
Marvel hasn’t confirmed that claim, so the identities of any potential additions remain firmly in rumor territory. Still, the Multiverse gives the studio plenty of options.
Marvel could bring in established MCU characters who weren’t part of the announced lineup. It could also reach into older Marvel franchises for more unexpected appearances.
Marvel Could Also Be Preparing for ‘Secret Wars’
The reported cameos aren’t the only possible reason for additional filming.
Avengers: Secret Wars (2027) is expected to begin production soon, meaning Marvel is preparing one Avengers movie while finishing another.
Additional photography could help Marvel strengthen the connection between the two movies. That might involve adjusting dialogue, introducing certain characters earlier, or planting story elements that become important in the sequel.
Reshoots are also common for major MCU productions, and scheduling such a large group of actors creates another challenge.
But if Richtman’s cameo report proves accurate, attention naturally turns toward the characters Marvel hasn’t announced.
Several Major Avengers Are Still Missing
Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye is one obvious possibility.
Renner recently sparked speculation after posting a video featuring his Hawkeye costume set to music associated with the character. The post doesn’t confirm his involvement, but its timing caught fans’ attention.
Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk is another notable absence. Bruce Banner helped establish the Avengers and survived Avengers: Endgame (2019), yet Ruffalo isn’t among the announced names.
Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch also remains missing. Wanda Maximoff seemingly died in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022), although uncertainty surrounding her fate continues to fuel theories about a return.
And Marvel doesn’t have to stop with MCU veterans.
The Multiverse Creates Some Wild Possibilities
Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine could immediately enter the conversation following Deadpool & Wolverine (2024). Neither appeared in Marvel’s original Doomsday cast presentation.
Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man would represent another massive possibility.
Maguire returned in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), establishing that his version of Spider-Man can cross into the MCU’s Multiverse storyline.
None of these characters has been confirmed for Doomsday, and Marvel could have entirely different additions planned.
Marvel May Still Have Some Major Secrets
Marvel has already announced enough characters to make Avengers: Doomsday (2026) one of its largest crossovers.
If Richtman’s latest report proves accurate, however, the confirmed lineup may only tell part of the story.
Hawkeye, Hulk, Scarlet Witch, Deadpool, Wolverine, and Spider-Man are all possibilities rather than confirmed additions. For now, Marvel is keeping any potential cameos secret.
With December 18 getting closer, those surprises could become one of the biggest questions surrounding Avengers: Doomsday (2026).
