In 2011, Australian actress Rebel Wilson exploded onto the scene when she played Brynn in the hit comedy Bridesmaids. Although she had appeared in a number of Australian television shows prior to that, American audiences fell in love with her dry sense of humor and sarcastic wit.
Since then, she has starred in a lot of hit movies, including Pitch Perfect (2012), How to Be Single (2016), Isn’t It Romantic (2019), Jojo Rabbit (2019), and Senior Year (2022).

Now, after years in front of the camera, Wilson is getting ready to release The Deb, the first film that she helped write, direct, and produce. The film stars Wilson as Janette and is a musical that tells the story of two teenage girls who are attending a debutante ball in a small town.
Unfortunately, some of Wilson’s fellow producers are trying to make sure the film never sees the light of day.
On July 11, Ms. Wilson uploaded to her Instagram page, revealing that The Deb had been chosen to close out the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), which was a very big honor. She then said that the movie might not be able to do that because the producers she had worked with were trying to destroy it.
She then called them out by name — producers Amanda Ghost, Gregor Cameron, and Vince Holden. Wilson said that she discovered they had been sexually harassing one of the stars of the film. The actress also said that the three had been embezzling a lot of money from the film, which was desperately needed.
If my movie gets buried at least you know why 🤷♀️(update: Toronto has given two more days for them to do the right thing and allow the movie to play!)

Wilson said she would not be quiet and would fight for the movie because hundreds of people had put so much hard work into its creation. She also claimed that this was not the first time that Amanda Ghost had been accused of inappropriate behavior in the film and music industry.
Now, just days after The Hustle (2019) star’s video went viral, Ghost, Cameron, and Holden filed a defamation lawsuit.
According to The Hollywood Reporter:
The complaint details a combative relationship between the producers and Wilson, who allegedly refused to collaborate with them, deserted the production for months at a time and repeatedly made unauthorized and inappropriate disclosures about the movie. The dispute, they claim, came to a head when she moved to seize writing credit for the movie from Hannah Reilly, a recipient of Wilson’s theatre scholarship, despite a contrary decision from the Australian Writers’ Guild, which found in March that the screenplay credit belongs with Reilly, with Wilson getting an “additional writing by” credit.
The trio further claim that when Wilson did not get her way, she began accusing Cameron and Holden of sexually harassing one of the film’s stars. They said that the actress denied the claims, and that Wilson ended up admitting that she was not aware of any specific instances of sexual harassment.
The producers further allege that The Deb is dealing with many licensing and credit disputes, which they claim were started by Ms. Wilson. That is why they were hesitant to let it premiere at TIFF. They also call Wilson a “bully who will disregard the interests of others to promote her own.”

After the lawsuit was filed, Wilson posted again on her Instagram page, saying that she was being sued for defamation, but it is not defamation if it is the truth.
It’s not defamation if it’s the TRUTH (those ‘producers’ who I mentioned in my last post have just filed a defamation suit against me and sent to the press)! Let our cool movie play at Toronto and stop messing about with a rubbish defamation suit against me!

It is interesting to note that Wilson graduated from the University of New South Wales in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts in Theater and a Bachelor of Laws. However, instead of choosing to be a lawyer, she decided to move to the United States and act.
