Disney’s Newest Original Series Just Broke a HUGE Record!
On December 19, Disney released the first show of its newest original series created for Disney+ — Percy Jackson and the Olympians. It is a brand-new take on the beloved fantasy novels created by Rick Riordan. The series stars Walker Scobell as Percy Jackson, a young boy who learns that he is a demigod, but not just any demigod. Percy is the demigod who needs to prevent the Titans from destroying the world.

There are currently only three episodes of Percy Jackson and the Olympians available to stream on Disney+, but the show is already a hit. In fact, it is breaking records!
According to Disney, the first episode of Percy Jackson amassed a whopping 13.3 million viewers. That makes it the best premiere for a Disney Branded Television show EVER! That’s right, Percy Jackson is at the top of the charts. The 13.3 million viewers came from both Disney+ and Hulu, with the show being available on both platforms.
But viewers aren’t just flocking to the streaming services. TikTok Business shared that in the last seven days, the phrase percyjackson has received more than 200 million views.
This is not the first time that the story of Percy Jackson has been brought to life. In 2010, 20th Century Fox released Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, starring Logan Lerman as Percy. The film was successful enough to garner a sequel, but neither The Lightning Thief nor its follow-up, Sea of Monsters (2013) sat well with fans. The Lightning Thief only has a 52% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and Sea of Monsters has a 54% rating.
Meanwhile, Disney’s new Percy Jackson and the Olympians series has an 88% rating from fans and a 96% rating from critics.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians also stars Leah Jeffries and Aryan Simhadri as Percy’s best friends, Annabeth Chase and Grover Underwood. New episodes drop each Tuesday on Disney+. The next new episode will be available on January 2.
