One Disney Resort Just Debuted Edible Straws!

We currently live in a world where we are discovering what a devastating effect materials like plastic have on the environment. Companies are continuously trying to cut down on the damage they do to the planet, and for places that sell food, that means trying to cut down on the use of items like plastic straws. At both Disneyland Resort in California and Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, Guests are more frequently being given paper straws and plastic lids are not given out as much, and in some cases, not at all.

However, Disneyland Resort recently decided to give Guests another option when it came to their straw choices. Instagrammer Danelle (@forgingstars) was visiting The Happiest Place on Earth and saw that edible straws were being sold at at least one location. Danelle was in the Candy Palace on Main Street, U.S.A., and saw a sign near the slushie machines that said Guests could purchase edible straws for one dollar. The straws came in three scrumptious flavors — strawberry, lemon, and lime.

Danelle shared a video of her fun discovery on her Instagram page.

On my next trip I plan to try one of these edible flavored straws! They’re available at the Candy Palace where the slushies are at the end of Main St.

For the most part — at least for now, it looks like Disneyland will continue to provide Guests with paper straws to go with their drinks. Some locations try only to give out straws when they are specifically asked. Some Disneyland Resort stores — like World of Disney and the Disney Home Store in the Downtown Disney District — even sell reusable straws. Guests are more than welcome to purchase reusable straws from Disney merchandise locations or bring their own from home.

Many Disneyland dining locations are also no longer giving out plastic lids. They will put lids on drinks for children, but adults who would like a lid for their drink may ask. However, it is important to remember that not every location carries lids anymore, so you may not be able to get one. No word yet on if these new edible straws are being sold at Walt Disney World Resort or elsewhere at Disneyland Park or Disney California Adventure.
