Hang on tight, Lightning McQueen fans! PIXAR’s releasing a brand-new original series based on the Cars film franchise, starring none other than number 95 “Ka-chow” and his best buddy, Mater, and the trailer was just released today!
According to What’s on Disney Plus, the original new series takes fans along for the ride on a cross-country road trip with Lightning McQueen and Mater.
“The series follows Lightning McQueen and his best friend Mater on a cross-country road trip. These episodes are filled with lots of fun new characters, imaginative destinations as well as old friends checking in along the way.”
According to IGN, the cross-country trip has McQueen and Mater heading east from Radiator Springs to meet up with Mater’s sister. Aside from those details, not much is known about the storyline within the original new animated series from PIXAR. But we can tell from the trailer that just dropped today that the animation is on point, the old familiar voices are the same, and it just feels like Cars again.

Cars on the Road was originally announced during Disney’s Investor Day in December 2020. In November 2021, the series was officially given its name.
PIXAR originally released only concept artwork for the new animated series, and even in those pieces, it was evident that animators had a dedication to keeping with the original look of Lightning McQueen, Mater, and the rest of the Cars gang.
Now that the trailer has dropped, fans can see that the finished product does indeed feature the classic animation from the original franchise.
Fans can catch all the action, fun, and adventure when Lightning McQueen and Mater take off on their road trip beginning September 8 on Disney+.
