Neil Patrick Harris to Guest Star in ‘Peter Pan’ Production

This particular show embodies disaster. The actors are a mess, the sets are falling apart, and embarrassing tech mishaps occur. While this usually would mark death for any stage show, The Play That Goes Wrong is a comedy play specifically written to include these mistakes. Writers Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, and Henry Shields published a variation of The Play That Goes Wrong, starring some classic characters. The show follows an amateur theater group’s haphazard attempt to stage J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan.

Producers announced that none other than Neil Patrick Harris will join the cast on Broadway this month!

NPH will guest star from April 11 until April 30 at the Barrymore Theatre in New York City in the role of Francis. Deadline describes Francis as “the Narrator and others in play-within-the-play.”

Harris is best known for his nine-year run on the sitcom How I Met Your Mother and starring in Doogie Howser, M.D. when he was a child actor, but he also won a Tony Award for his performance in Hedwig and The Angry Inch in 2014.

Harris knows his way around the stage, but he also has plenty of Disney experience that has prepared him for the role. Neil Patrick Harris hosted the World of Color Show in 2015 for Disneyland’s 60th anniversary. He has narrated the Candlelight Processional at EPCOT multiple times. In 2013, he hosted the Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade Special for ABC, in which he performed an entire musical number. Harris visits the Disney Parks every year with his husband, David Burtka, and kids.  They even all dressed up as Peter Pan characters one Halloween, with Harris as Captain Hook.

Neil Patrick Harris is the first “special guest star” to join Peter Pan Goes Wrong on Broadway, but hopefully, more Disney alums fill in for the future. Harris will surely nail this comedy show with a touch of Disney that gets the audience involved and keeps them laughing all night.

The show is now in previews, but starts April 19 for a 16.5 week run!

Lana Porter

Lana has never lost a Disney Trivia night. Maybe it’s the hundreds of times she’s been to Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, her love for Disney’s ’90’s era hand-animated musicals, or the fact that she’s often likened to cartoon characters, but Disney and its magic have a special place in her heart. Her favorite Disney experiences include the EPCOT Food and Wine Festival, eating Mickey Bars on the PeopleMover, and crying during the Magic Kingdom fireworks show. One day she hopes to be chosen as the rebel spy on Star Tours. When Lana isn’t Park Hopping, she’s at home… More »
