More Disney Guests Caught with Guns In 2020 Than Previous Years

Interesting reports are coming out showing after reviews of public records, more Disney guests were caught with guns in 2020 than in previous years. This is especially shocking when you think about how Walt Disney World was closed for a couple of months due to the COVID pandemic in 2020.

As reported by OrlandoSentinel: “While gun charges remain extremely rare, at least 20 people were arrested on them at Disney in 2020, compared with four arrests in 2016, according to sheriff’s reports over the past five years obtained through an Orlando Sentinel public records request. The arrests are on pace to keep rising. This year, deputies have already arrested at least 14 people at Disney for carrying concealed firearms through mid-April, the records show.”

Gabrielle Russon, the writer of the Orlando Sentinel article took to social media to share how her news landed on Late Night with Seth Meyers as shown in the tweet below:

So why the increase in Disney guests carrying guns into the parks? OrlandoSentinel reports, “Experts point to several reasons why gun arrests are on the rise. For one, there has been a flood of new gun owners across the country in 2020, a trend spawned by the pandemic and political unrest. Disney also is screening more people than it did five years earlier and upgraded its security checkpoint technology in 2020.”

As noted on the Walt Disney World website “Firearms, ammunition, knives and weapons of any kind” are listed under prohibited items. We’re thankful the upgraded security checkpoint seems to be working!

About Mike and Jamie Sylvester

We are Disney nerds. Two kids at heart who love the magic and the memories of Walt Disney World! We follow all things Disney and have great experiences with Disney Vacation Club and RunDisney events in particular. We enjoy the vacations, day trips, weekend getaways and geek out over the planning of such events. From lodging to dining to Fastpasses we have a spreadsheet for every occasion. Mike’s frivolous Disney goal is to acquire a magic band of every style while Jamie’s goal is to experience as many Disney desserts as possible. Usually there isn’t a day that passes without some discussion of the master plan of our next trip to the happiest place on earth. Most people think we’re normal – until they travel to Disney with us. We have been married for 15 years and are blessed with a daughter and a son who have already learned the importance of planning ahead! As a family we thoroughly enjoy the magic and the memories at Walt Disney World and are here to help others experience the magic as well.
