Epic Universe fans have a few dates worth circling on the calendar. Two of the park’s most popular attractions are heading offline in the coming months, and Universal has also confirmed a brand-new ride for one of its most crowded lands. Here’s what to know before you go.

Universal Orlando Resort has confirmed on its official website that Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment will be closed from December 11 through December 15, 2026. Universal hasn’t said why.
That’s a notable gap. Monsters Unchained has been one of Epic Universe’s headline experiences since opening day, pulling guests into Frankenstein Manor while Dr. Victoria Frankenstein tries to harness the power of Universal’s legendary monsters. Losing it for five days right before the holidays will sting for anyone who built their itinerary around a visit to Dark Universe.
Over in How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, the soaking-wet boat ride Fyre Drill will close November 9 through November 10, 2026. A longer closure follows from January 25 through February 4, 2027, so winter visitors should take note.
Now for the good news. Epic Universe is adding a new indoor coaster to Dark Universe, right alongside Monsters Unchained. Universal hasn’t shared theming, ride system, or opening date details just yet, but its official X account confirmed that “Construction is underway, with an opening planned in the years ahead.”
The timing of that announcement makes sense. On Comcast’s latest earnings call, the company reported that Universal’s theme parks brought in $2.6 billion in the third quarter of 2026, a 4.4% drop from the year before. CFO Jason Armstrong told investors that theme park demand cooled during the summer.

Co-CEO Mike Cavanagh was even more direct, admitting that competitors, Disney included, “were quicker to anticipate and recognize softness in demand” and made changes to keep pace. He also called out “capacity challenges” at Epic Universe, which opened in May 2025.
Across its lands, SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic, How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, Dark Universe, and the central Celestial Park, Epic Universe has plenty to offer. Still, with capacity now an openly acknowledged concern, any ride closure is felt more sharply by guests.
Visiting December 11 through 15? Plan your Dark Universe time without Monsters Unchained. Visiting in late January or early February? Expect Fyre Drill to be unavailable. Either way, check Universal’s official closures page before your trip. Longer term, the new coaster should give Dark Universe some much-needed breathing room once it arrives.
