The annual meeting of The Walt Disney Company’s shareholders was held on Monday afternoon, and the company wasted no time making some very exciting announcements, including one from actor Dwayne Johnson.
Since Walt Disney first announced his Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs project in the mid-1930s, Disney Studios has been in the business of taking age-old fairy tales and other stories–many that have been passed down for generations–and breathing Disney life into them. Over the course of Disney’s 100-year history, those Disney classics have been the mainstay of entertainment produced by Walt’s beloved company.
But in the last several years, Walt Disney Pictures has been breathing life into its own classics, developing a virtual library of live-action films that tell the stories of those classics using live actors, rather than 2D animation, as well as CGI, to give new insight into the stories found within Disney’s beloved classic films. So far, Disney’s live-action films include a remake of Cinderella, The Lion King, The Jungle Book, Lady and the Tramp, Alice in Wonderland, and even a live-action musical that brings together the main characters and stories of timeless fairy tales, Into the Woods, starring such A-list actors and Emily Blunt, Johnny Depp, Meryl Streep, Samuel L. Jackson, and dozens more.

But the decision on Disney’s part to revisit Walt’s old films and bring them back to a new life has been met with controversy over the years, as some fans want Disney to leave things as they are, and some are thrilled at the chance to go deeper into the stories within the classic films.

Regardless of how fans feel about the live-action films, they’ll have one more to love or hate, according to an announcement at Monday’s shareholders event, hosted by Disney CEO Bob Iger and Disney’s board members.
