When Miley Cyrus was just nine years old, she started performing professionally in front of the camera. And she started out with some big names backing her — mainly her father, country superstar Billy Ray Cyrus.

Then, when she was barely a teenager, Miley landed a role that would shoot her to superstardom — the role of Miley Stewart in the new Disney Channel show Hannah Montana. Now, Miley Cyrus is one of the most famous singers in the world.

While being a Disney star seems like the dream for a lot of people, it was not all it was cracked up to be. Recently, a video of Cyrus went viral as she spoke about her insane schedule while working on Hannah Montana

Many of her days consisted of getting up around 5:30 a.m. and then having interviews and appearances all day before ending around 7 p.m. After that, she would fly back to Los Angeles — if she was out of town — so she could resume filming the show.

But Miley Cyrus was not the only member of her family to star in Hannah Montana. Her father was also able to reinvigorate his career when he was given the role of Robby Ray Stewart, Miley’s father. Throughout their years starring on the show, it appeared that the duo was incredibly close.

Unfortunately, it seems that their relationship is no longer as close as it once was.

On February 4, 2024, Cyrus went onto the Grammy’s stage after winning Record of the Year. Immediately after her speech, fans noticed that she had thanked nearly everyone in her life, except her father. She thanked her friends, her family, and even “my main gays because look how good I look.” But not a singular mention of her dad.

Now, Miley is addressing their strained relationship and what she learned from the “Achy Breaky Heart” singer.

Cyrus recently appeared on David Letterman’s Netflix show, My Next Guest Needs No Introduction. Letterman is known for his candid questioning, and asked the singer about the good and bad things she had learned from her father. So, she started with the good.

“Without my dad, I know — I mean, not just literally I wouldn’t be sitting in this chair, I wouldn’t exist — but I would not, who I am as a person, it wouldn’t exist. Because my dad, as a creative and as an artist in the way that his brain works, has always made me feel safer in my own mind because we’re very similar in our ideas. So I think a lot of his perspective on reality and on life, I’ve inherited from him, more so than the way that I was raised — which really, my mom raised me.”

She also said that Billy Ray provided her with a map of what to do and what not to do when it came to navigating superstardom.

Then she made a note about what she did not like about her father, which was also a critique of herself.

“I also inherited the narcissism from my father.”

Rumors of a rift between the father and daughter began back in 2022, when Miley’s mom, Tish Cyrus, filed for divorce from Billy Ray after nearly thirty years of marriage. While both Tish and Billy ray quickly moved on from the relationship, reports had indicated that some of their children chose sides. Miley’s sister Noah reportedly sided with Billy Ray, while Miley sided with Tish.

After working nonstop in the film and music industries for most of her life, the “Flowers” singer recently announced that she was taking a break from touring. She is still working on new music, but will not be touring to promote a new album. She will be taking a break, relaxing, and focusing on herself.
