Former Vice President Mike Pence has shared his opinion on the seemingly never-ending conflict between the Walt Disney Company and Florida Gov Ron DeSantis. In a somewhat surprising turn of events, Pence spoke out in support of the Walt Disney Company and criticised DeSantis’s actions towards the company.
Former Vice President Criticises Desantis
Mike Pence made an appearance on CNBC’s show Squawk Box on Wednesday, February 22. Squawk Box describes itself at “the ultimate “pre-market” morning new and talk program, where the biggest names in business tell their most important stories.”
Today, Mike Pence was the show’s guest of honor. During his interview, the discussion of Florida governor Ron DeSantis’s Parental Rights in Education bill came up. The bill, which is also known as the “don’t say gay bill,” will prohibit elementary school teachers from educating their students on topics relating to gender identity and sexual orientation. The Walt Disney Company openly expressed their disagreement with the bill, which DeSantis did not enjoy. To ‘get back’ at Disney, Governor DeSantis stripped Disney of its special tax status that represented its as an “independent special district.”
Mike Pence Makes His Opinion Clear
In his Squawk Box interview, Pence explained that as a Republican, he agrees with DeSantis’s Parental Rights in Education bill. Pence said that he “fully supported Florida’s initiative to protect kids and protect parental rights.”
However, when it comes to DeSantis retribution towards Disney, Pence strongly disagrees. He explained, “I have concerns about the follow-on. Disney stepped into the fray, they lost. The idea of going after their taxing authority. That was beyond the scope of what I as a conservative, a limited government Republican, would be prepared to do.”

Many fans were surprised by the words of Mike Pence. Pence, who is a potential candidate for the 2024 presidential candidate, has not publically spoken on this issue before. However, It doesn’t seem that Pence’s words will shake DeSantis. DeSantis is still celebrating what he believes to be a victory over the Walt Disney Company. In a recent press congress, DeSantis expressed that, “Disney is gonna pay its fair share of taxes and Disney is gonna honor their debt…This is obviously now going to be controlled by the state of Florida, so there’s a new sheriff in town.”
The public will be interested to see if DeSantis makes a comment in response to Pence.
