26 years ago, Disney’s animated Hercules delighted audiences and made Greek mythology danceable. Starring the voice talents of James Woods, Danny Devito, Susan Egan, and more, Hercules became an instant Disney classic. Believe me, ‘Go the Distance’ was the ‘Let it Go’ of its time.

This Mount Olympus myth is expected to be the next big live action remake from The Walt Disney Company, and fans have made their dream casts known – from Ariana Grande, to Halle Bailey, to Jennifer Hudson! One original member of the animated film effort stepped up today to show that he’s still got it, even at age 70!

Michael Bolton posted a short and sweet reprise of Alan Menken’s ‘Go the Distance’ for the movie’s anniversary. A true Disney fan will remember that Bolton performed the pop cover of Hercules’ most iconic song for the official soundtrack back in 1997! Check out his 2023 update below where he invites fans to sing along with him:

So grateful to be a part of the film Hercules released on this date in 1997. Listen to my version of Go The Distance now on the #DisneyHercules soundtrack.

Fans gushed at the superstar’s post, remembering the Disney film fondly and calling the song a “masterpiece.” Some fans even likened Michael Bolton to the Disney hero himself! Fans were rooting for Chris Pratt to nab the title role of Hercules, but is Michael Bolton coming for his spot?? Surely he could at least be featured somewhere amongst the gods on Mount Olympus!

Either way, Bolton is the true hero here for giving fans an unexpected dose of nostalgia. Disney’s Hercules is currently streaming on Disney+, and it’s only a matter of time until this rockin’ Greek mythology transforms into a live action remake.

In the meantime, check out Bolton’s version of ‘Go the Distance’ from 1997 for a blast from the past!

About Lana Porter

Lana has never lost a Disney Trivia night. Maybe it’s the hundreds of times she’s been to Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, her love for Disney’s ’90’s era hand-animated musicals, or the fact that she’s often likened to cartoon characters, but Disney and its magic have a special place in her heart. Her favorite Disney experiences include the EPCOT Food and Wine Festival, eating Mickey Bars on the PeopleMover, and crying during the Magic Kingdom fireworks show. One day she hopes to be chosen as the rebel spy on Star Tours. When Lana isn’t Park Hopping, she’s at home reading books of all topics, watching her favs on Disney+, or snuggling her two cats, which she swears are not named after Disney characters. She loves surprising people with her knowledge of the Marvel Cinematic Universe but admits she is still catching up with Star Wars. She is happy to combine her excitement for writing with her love for Disney-style storytelling and share what she can with the world!
