Marvel’s Upcoming Crossover Event Gets Official New Trailer With Deadpool
Despite starring in one of the biggest superhero movies of the decade, Ryan Reynolds’ Wade Wilson/ Deadpool has been strangely absent from the Marvel Cinematic Universe ever since Deadpool & Wolverine was released in 2024.
The film, which paired Reynolds’ Merc with a Mouth with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, became a massive global success, earning more than $1.338 billion worldwide and bringing both characters into the MCU following Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox.

For many fans, Deadpool & Wolverine also felt like a farewell to the long-running Fox-Marvel era that began with X-Men in 2000. But while several legacy Marvel actors are now returning for Avengers: Doomsday (2026), Reynolds remains noticeably absent from the upcoming crossover event. Still, that hasn’t stopped rumors from spreading online.
Speculation surrounding Avengers: Doomsday continues to dominate Marvel discussions, particularly regarding whether Reynolds and even Jackman will secretly appear in the film despite not being included in Marvel Studios’ announced cast lineup.
Some rumors have even claimed Wolverine could appear alongside Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man during the film’s opening sequence, though nothing has been confirmed.

Reynolds himself has remained vague about the future.
During the Deadpool & Wolverine press tour, the actor told Collider: “I have no idea if I’ll ever wear that Deadpool suit again. I hope I do — but I don’t know.”

More recently, during an appearance on TODAY Sunday Sitdown Live, Reynolds suggested that Deadpool is more of a supporting character, which suggests that if he does return, it would likely be within a larger ensemble project rather than another standalone film.
All of this uncertainty surrounding the character extends to Deadpool 4.
Director Shawn Levy previously discussed the challenges of continuing the franchise while speaking with Kevin McCarthy (via The Playlist). Still, actor TJ Miller, who plays Weasel in the first two films, believes another installment could happen. Speaking with 101 WRIF Detroit, he revealed that Reynolds already has an idea for where the franchise could go next.

While Deadpool himself may still be absent from Marvel’s live-action plans, the character has now surfaced elsewhere in the franchise.
The recently released trailer for X-Men ’97 Season 2 includes a brief reference to Wade Wilson when Morph transforms into Deadpool during a fight sequence. The moment appears to be a callback to Morph’s transformation into the character in the original X-Men: The Animated Series. Watch the official trailer below (he appears around the 1:29 mark):
Whether Deadpool eventually returns alongside Wolverine in the MCU remains to be seen, but Marvel fans clearly aren’t ready to say goodbye to either character just yet.
X-Men ’97 Season 2 premieres on Disney+ on July 1.
Avengers: Doomsday releases in theaters on December 18.
