If you’re a fan of early 2000s Disney Channel shows and a fan of horror movies, then boy do we have some exciting news for you! A number of Disney Channel stars are reuniting to make an LGBTQ+ horror film that is being directed by another Disney Channel alum! The film will be called Howdy, Neighbor! and will be directed by Allisyn Snyder. Disney fans will know her for her roles as Zora Lancaster in both Sonny With A Chance and So Random. She was also the voice of Stormy in the children’s show Captain Jake and the Never Land Pirates.
Disney Channel stars that have signed onto the project include Alyson Stoner from the Camp Rock films, Matthew Scott Montgomery, Damien Haas, and Shayne Topp, all from the show So Random!, Debby Ryan and Kevin Chamberlin from the show Jessie, and Tim Bagley from both Shake It Up! and Raven’s Home.
Variety exclusively learned more about the film and reported the following:
Titled “Howdy, Neighbor!,” the upcoming film is written by Montgomery, and is formatted as a “screenlife” film, with all of the footage occurring on computer screens. Montgomery stars as Benjamin, a young queer millenial actor living in West Hollywood who was once a famous child actor. When a new neighbor Chase (Grant Jordan) moves across the hall and reveals himself as a fan, Benjamin begins investigating the oddly familiar man with his best friend Harley (Ryan). Aside from the former Disney Channel stars, the supporting cast also includes Sterling Sulieman, Adam Faison, Greer Grammer and Kimmy Shields.
According to Variety, filming is expected to begin next month and is being funded by the production company Watch the Footage Productions — which was founded by Snyder and her fellow Disney alum husband, Dylan Snyder. Dylan Snyder is best known in the Disney world for his role as Milton Krupnick in the show Kickin’ It!. Watch the Footage Productions began making films in 2016 and Dylan and Allisyn were married in 2019.
If you want to relive your Disney Channel glory days, the Camp Rock movies, So Random!, Jessie, Sonny With a Chance, and Raven’s Home are all available to stream on Disney+.
