Since Disneyland Resort launched its new Magic Key Pass Program in August, Magic Keys have been sold by the thousands. The new Magic Key Program replaced Disneyland’s incredibly popular Annual Pass Program, which ended in January 2021. The Magic Key program has been so successful that it has actually led to problems for Key Holders and now Disney has stopped sales of the two top-tier Magic Keys — the Dream Key and the Believe Key.
The biggest issue Magic Key Holders face is reservation availability. When Disneyland Resort reopened after the pandemic shutdown, a new rule was instituted where all Guests — regular ticket and Key Holders — were required to make a reservation for the theme park they would like to start their day in. Park Hopping is allowed, but it does not start until 1 p.m. each day.
One of the most popular times of the year has started at Disneyland Resort — the holiday season. A Christmas Fantasy Parade and Believe…In Holiday Magic fireworks have returned to Disneyland, Festival of Holidays is back at California Adventure, and specialty food and treats can be found throughout both Parks. It is a magical time to visit the Happiest Place on Earth, but if you are a Magic Key Holder hoping to score a reservation this month, you may be out of luck.
Currently, only December 2 remains open for Magic Key reservations, and only Disneyland Park can be chosen as the starting Park. Earlier in the day, only California Adventure was available. Now, it is possible that Disney could choose to open more reservations for Magic Key Holders on a day-by-day basis, but there is no guarantee for that, especially if the day you want to book is a weekend.
If regular ticket holders do not take all the reservations for a particular day, then Disney could choose to release more reservation spots to Magic Key Holders. However, it is important to remember that neither Disneyland nor California Adventure is operating at one hundred percent capacity, so Disney could decide that the Parks are full enough and not open more slots.
If you are looking to see if any reservations open up for December, be sure to check back daily (or multiple times per day) to see if anything opens. Disney does not announce when they open up more reservations, so it is always important to check your Disneyland app or the Disneyland Resort website.
