What if the events of Star Wars: A New Hope happened all over again, but this time, Earth’s greatest superheroes were watching it unfold?
That’s essentially the premise behind Marvel Comics and Lucasfilm Publishing’s upcoming crossover, Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles.

Per Marvel.com, the five-part series will bring the original Star Wars story into Marvel’s Earth-616 universe, allowing characters from both franchises to collide in a way that has never happened before.
The project will launch in January 2027 as part of the celebrations surrounding the 50th anniversary of A New Hope. But while the title makes the crossover element obvious, the story itself appears to go considerably further than simply placing Luke Skywalker and Spider-Man in the same adventure.
According to Empire, “Details on the story are scarce, but it’s set in the Earth-616 universe, with a spell causing the events of A New Hope to crash into reality.” That makes Hope Assembles essentially a Marvel-infused retelling of the original Star Wars movie, albeit one taking place in an entirely different universe.
The familiar characters remain at the heart of the story. Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, Chewbacca, C-3PO, R2-D2, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Darth Vader will all appear, but they won’t be alone. Spider-Man, the Avengers, and other Marvel heroes will find themselves caught up in the events, while Doctor Doom and other Marvel villains join forces with Vader and the Galactic Empire.
That setup also explains the deliberately familiar title. Hope Assembles combines A New Hope with the famous “Avengers, assemble” phrase, effectively signaling what happens when the two worlds are forced together.
Kevin Smith, who is writing the series, has previously spoken about wanting to see Spider-Man or Doctor Doom cross over into the Star Wars saga. Now, decades later, he’s getting to tell that story.
“Back in the early ‘80s, I had a subscription to Marvel’s Star Wars comics. And as fun as it was to follow the adventures of Luke, Leia and Han, I always wished that Spider-Man or Doctor Doom could cross over into their cinematic saga. So when the opportunity arose to actually tell that story, nobody had to Force my hand! I’m ecstatic to be writing Hope Assembles for the 50th anniversary of Star Wars! David Marquez is providing the artwork for the five-part series, which begins in January 2027.
