A long-awaited “destination” at the Walt Disney World Resort has failed to open as planned and promised by the parks, and there’s no explanation for its absence at this time.

Disney World is always becoming better. Over the years, new parks, new lands, and new attractions have been added, and some offerings have even been removed. Walt Disney once spoke about Disneyland, saying, “Disneyland will never be completed; It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world.” And it appears that the same is true of Disney World.

The main difference between Disneyland Resort in California and the Walt Disney World Resort in Central Florida has to do with size. Disneyland is somewhat landlocked, while Disney World has something Walt described as “the blessing of size,” and the parks can theoretically keep adding and expanding for years to come.

Disney routinely surprises guests with announcements about upcoming additions and expansions in the parks, and occasionally, guests hear of planned refurbishments of attractions or the removal and complete reimagining of guest areas, as in the case of the Splash Mountain attraction at Disney World. And most of the time, when Disney promises a new attraction or a new addition to the parks, guests can bet on it.

Occasionally, however, circumstances outside of Disney’s control can lead to the scrapping of planned additions or the delay of new attractions and experiences at the parks. It’s a situation that doesn’t happen often, but it does happen.

Such is the case with a new offering at Disney World. In February, The Cake Bake Shop’s official website featured a post that excitedly shared the news of a late 2023 opening of The Cake Bake Shop bakery and restaurant at Disney’s Boardwalk.

Disney World’s official website invites guests to “discover this new bakery with a whimsical atmosphere that complements the idyllic charm of Disney’s Boardwalk. Upon entering, you’ll find counters lined with handmade cakes that are one-of-a-kind in beauty and taste, attractively displayed on French porcelain platters topped with glass domes. Indulge in these and other blissful bites, such as cookies, French macarons, brownies, dessert bars, pies, cheesecakes, and more,” and promises guests that the new “destination bakery is sure to become a favorite among Guests of all ages.”

But that invitation will have to be postponed, as it looks as though the official Cake Bake Shop website has been updated to remove any mention or promise of the opening of a Disney World location in 2023.

There’s no explanation at this time for the missed opening date, and as this is a developing story, more information will be shared as it becomes available.
